You fill out a form and the devs pick from a list. Community voting means that large clans will keep voting in the same guy. In game stats while fair to everyone doesn't tell what it takes to be a good leader.

I'm an easy going guy, if the commander has a good plan im with it.
If he has a bad plan ill tell him in advance, but execute it anyway, cos solo-ing probably has even less chance than with a team.
In these kinda games I'd like to know what the overall desired result is, so I can improvise on the ground without messing the bigger picture up.
Guess im more of an officer/sergeant kinda guy than a general.

Game stats does not a good leader make. Being voted in, while abusable, is the only way to really go about it.

Commanders getting voted in by sheer numbers from a certain faction won't last long if they're terribad commanders. Everyone has a right to a shot at it, regardless of any other circumstances.

Is "commander" the war council or more of a field commander? Because personally I think its kind of stupid voting in a field commander.

War council is the highest command position available.

Though I agree with the War Council having to be elected, and have them choose a (temporary) commander.

You vote for the WC, you get THEIR cabinet appointees/front bench. The WC live and die with stupid moves like promoting their dumbass mates to Field Command. Simple as that. Commanders are figuratively Champions of the WC.

Voted for "Voted In" because the options don't include the above answer. I play all kinds of games, online and athletic, where the captain or GM has some of the least impressive individual and tactical leadership skills. That's where a Commander comes in as a tactical operative. The War Council is Caesar playing a larger strategic game, Commanders are Mark Antonys implementing the vision. What use is a Commander who goes off on their own script ? Sweet fuck all.

Yup good point, an alternative option. Why not give the playerbase the option to vote in the commanders and the war council decides which are the best candidates from said list. But, the war council themselves cannot vote, only choose from the list of candidates the playerbase voted on.

I don't like that, it'll just be a bunch of guild leaders winning that popular vote.
