How do you play JPA?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Dreadspectre, Feb 20, 2016.

  1. Seriously?

Mercy since the changes to melee I can't do squat. I don't know how you guys do it. I'm not even good on it so I take that first but man....I don't even know how you guys see targets half the time.

Defending the Pegasus? Tiny little rooms so dark everyone blends into the shadows? If I don't actually land on my target I tend to lose them in the graphics overload and promptly seem to die to 2-3 bolter shots or 2 plasma shots(a feat I never seem to pull off, I try and just tell myself must have been a headshot).

Granted I've been trying to do Powerfist JPA(I know I know) but ugh...just...not in a good place right now.

I don't know what the answer is per say, possibly giving back JPA some toughness, but just yeah...not in a good spot atm.

My hat goes off to those who are still sticking with JPA's after the changes.

I dunno, as far as I can tell you just spam quick attack and then I fall over dead before I have a chance to react.

Gotta play them like an annoying mosquito atm. Engage, get off a quick swipe or two and jump back up rinse repeat. Trying to be too fancy is just a good way of getting killed.

Dont use JP use GA with a PF and be a ninja!
  6. Well, there are a few ways to play the jump assault. Personally, I almost never remain in the same spot for more than half a second. If I stand still for too long I will be gunned down. Ever since the removal of the damage mitigation buff, I use the heavy attack a lot less. It's just too risky for me to use most of the time in my opinion. The only time I will use it often is when I fight another melee specialist 1v1. If you bash somebody and follow up with a heavy attack you will win almost every time. Even if they fast attack the heavy attack will completely ignore it. It's totally broken, but it works (most of the time).

Don't play jump assaults, they are way too squishy and 1 to 1 trade isn't worth it when you can roll a tactical or plasma dev and do much better.

Only MoN is somewhat valid, even shieldbro feels like normal tactical with a shield, which does jack at times.

Playing melee is a chore to the point where playing preset traitor/tactical is much more rewarding and fun.

These toughness bonuses might feel too good when you're on receiving end, but without them these classes are unplayable.

I consider myself one of the most careful jump assaults, I don't jump when it would give away my element of surprise, but when I do jump, I surprisingly often am gunned down before I land.

Just forget about jump assault existence until we have accessories in place.

I still can do good at times, but its MoN exclusively.

I've found your problems, and they don't mix well together. Not even the best of the best players can make the fist in general work right now.

This is another one of those problems that don't mix well with the others. If you aren't good enough to make it work outside, why do you think being in rooms where you can't slam will be any different?

You are not, I repeat, are not, dying in 2-3 shots. TTK is short for everyone right now, and while it may feel like that, you are taking much more shots than that.

And if you aren't making use of the packs ability to make you hard as fuck to target, you're just a big shoot me sign. When air assaults come into the fight, they are the first ones I target, and I'm far from alone in that regard.

Let's recap. By your own admission, you aren't good at air assault, have been using a weapon that is known to be extremely hard to use, and have been attempting to use that combination in tight rooms.

Yet you're saying that despite this, the fault doesn't actually lie with you, but the class?

It's not hard, you just can't dive into the middle of fights and 2 shot people while being near invincible anymore. Know how is actually needed now, it's like playing an assassin in most multiplayer games, you need to strike at opportune moments and be a huge nuisance, not just dive in with impunity.

How do play Jump Assault? You don't. It's by far the worst class in the game.

JA is extremely squishy, anyclass in the game can easily win a duel again a JA by just rolling once and unloading their guns, melee right now sucks ass when you have no survivability because people can just stall the duel or simply run away.
And on top of that there's ton of bugs (some of which might be due to lag) like half the smashes not actually stunning even though people are in the center of the circle, or people being hit by melee weapons on your screen when in fact they're not getting hit at all.

Right now you're better off playing ground assaults which are simply superior in every way. JA are basically free kills.
