Rogue Trader, I got one of the first printings and started getting White Dwarf around number 60. I have all of the first edition books, as well as some of the first run minis. (including dreadnoughts, and MK I terminators)

    Been addicted from the start.

My first Warhammer experience was watching my older brother play WH: Shadow of the Horned Rat on his playstation in the mid 90's. Those rat ogres creeped me out! I soon learned that a GW store was in the mall literally 10 minutes from my house and i was then quickly exposed to the entire franchise.

I think my first 40K purchase was the (3rd edition?) starter set featuring black templars and dark eldar. played a little SM in my early teens but nearly a decade later i became an IG guy. The store had too many people playing that poster boy army i wanted to be different :p

And with this game I'll have to go back to my SM roots until they put in the IG.
  4. i've started by Gotrek and Felix from Wh fantasy, i've read lot of other novels and after a while i said to my self meh, i'll give a shot at 40k

Eh, I don't really know when I first discovered it. I remember seeing the first DoW box on the shelves at Target when I was a kid, took a peek at the cover and I thought it looked pretty cool. At the time I had been recently introduced to Warcraft (which is where my avatar originates) and Starcraft, and thought "this is like, Warcraft and Starcraft combined!" (yeah yeah, Warhammer and 40k where first, I know). My first game was Squad Command for the DS. Pretty fun game, I still play it from time to time. Then, years later, I bought Dawn of War: Platinum Edition on steam. Love that game to death. Once I had started playing DoW, I wanted to know more about the races, specifically orks. I did loads of reading on sites like Lexicanum and DakkaDakka, trying to get as much information as possible.

I don't really know when I found out about the miniatures, probably from google searching orks. Then I decided I wanted to start collecting miniatures, just to build, paint, and display. I had no intention to actually play the game any time soon. The first kit I got was the tactical marine box (not the new one, but the last one we had). The first guy I built was the sergeant, with the classic chainsword and bolt pistol combo, but later my dog chewed him up, Rest in peace(es) my first 40k miniature. ;~;7

Then I started collecting my favorite race, da Orks! Started with boyz, of course, then went on to collect other ork kits. A friend of mine decided to get me Dark Vengeance as birthday gift, and that's when I started to get into the table top game.

I played Space Marine when it came out and thought the character designs and universe was awesome, so I looked into it some more and became a fan. Though I have to say the funny videos from people like Alfabusa and other members of what is now the Alfa Legion helped me get into it a lot more easily.

For me it went a little something like this:
Way back when I was about 10 or 11, I was over at a friends house and he had a single TT model - an Eldar jetbike. Once I'd noticed it, I thought it was absolutely awesome. So my friend then told me where he got it from and that there was loads more stuff like it there. About an hour later, we were at a local toy store that sold Warhammer and my wonderous adventure with 40k began. We quickly agreed that we'd start 40k up properly and that we'd collect dfferent armies (for diversity's sake) so on that day he bought a splinter pack of Eldar guardians and I bought a splinter pack of 5 Tyranid termagants. By the end of the week we'd convinced our small circle of friends to each pick an army and get started - resulting in: an Eldar, a Nid (me), a Marine, a Guard and an Ork. one week later and we'd hit up the nearest GW and built up ~500pts each.
Suprisingly, it didn't take us long to pick up on the rules - the ork, in fact, knew the rules better than one of the GW's newer staff members and as such he was permitted to play proper games straight away.
Once we'd all done our mandatory GW club 'training' it escalatedtty quickly from there. For the next 4 years we all went to that same GW once a week to play against each other and others.
The Eldar player became an extremely good painter and tactician.
The Ork created an army list that went unbeaten for 6 months (which actually fell to my first Space Wolves list).
The Guard promptly abandoned his army and adopted the Tau, in favour of greater firing lines.
The Marine was notorious for utilising ruthless firing lines and having a force commander that never fell in battle (FOR 3 YEARS!!).
And I became the senseless spender with way too many Carnifexes to actually field.

Sadly, 9 years after this all began, I'm now the only one still doing 40k and I'll be damned if I'm quitting anytime soon.
    Makeka and Mngwa like this.

  9. The year was 1991+ something, a friend of my had just orderd the plastic RT space marines.
Started playing with RT rules, soon the 2nd edition came out and everything got a lot simpler to play.
Been playing Space Wolves all the time. If you say you like Chaos i will bite you in the leg. :)
