Tell us about how you got into the Warhammer 40,000 hobby! Personally I was initiated into it at a very young age by a friend, when I barely even could speak English. It was mostly because the models looked so cool and I wanted to collect them like I did with Pokeman cards earlier in my life. Ever since then, 40k has never really left my life.
I walked past the GW store as a kid and asked my parents if we could check it out. I saw the models and thought it looked super cool. Though i never played the tabletop this is how i was initiated to 40k. Oh and ofcourse all the DoW games. But since that day in my early childhood i was forever lost to the warp.
Well, ummm. I first learned about 40k when I was 14. I must admit that I used to think Jedi Knights could kick a Space Marine to the curb easily. I grew out of Star Wars because of reasons and nerdrage, and then I had no thing to keep my interest until my friends, when I was 17, reintroduced me to 40k through DOW. And then a few months later after that, I watched some phajjit named Alfabusa's videos, which helped to cement my newfound love for 40k :3
I used to read copies of second edition fluff in second hand book stores or from friends. Once I was old enough I heard that, rather than having stopped after a while 40K was still going strong. I bought some models during late third edition, a squad of Ultramarines then lots of Tau, and kept going. Unfortunately, as it's the fluff which keeps me interested, sticking with the hobby has been a mixed blessing in the last five years.
Threw a friend in school back when i was 13 or 14 (40k 1st EditionRogue trader times). He tried getting me into the fantasy tabletop which at the time i was " THIS IS AMAZING!! " . Then i pestered my parents to let me start an army and they took me to a GW store in the city, with the intentions of me getting just a few fantasy mini's to start me off. I got in the store and saw space marines " THATS MORE AMAZING!! " so i ended up with a copy of rogue trader rule book and a box of beakie space marines Since then i have been all over the hobby, from specialist games to video games and books. Never looked back although real life has had me in and out of the Hobby a few times since the start
From an older cousin when i was about 8-9. He brought me to the local GW and i just loved it instantly, since then I've always kept up with it (tabletop to MMO's) although i only started properly collecting last year (i regret not doing it sooner )
I am a bit of an late entry, i joined up on the warhammer dawn of war game, never took an extra look towards the warhammer 40k franchise, but after just playing and seeing those trailers i have been consumed to know more, i just love everything about it.
