Hey guys, my in game name is Wolfric Cudan (Ultramarine), and am interested in creating a backstory, however have a very limited knowledge of the lifespan of a normal marine. I know about the age ranging such as receiving a all space marine implants by 18 and that the Ultramarine gene seed is pure (very little if any mutation). I was thinking about how to create a backstory without stomping on the Ultramarine lore. All that I know is that I want to see the Codex as a guideline and less of a strict law to live by (I know its considered heresy but its what I wish to create, if possible). I am new here (and newer to 40k than most) and was looking for any helpful advice, I know about the lexicanum website but it never tells the tale of a normal space marine, more of the story of important figures (like Uriel Ventris).

Welcome aboard brother. I'd suggest picking up some 40K or Horus Heresy novels in order to draw some inspiration for your back story. Book 1 of Horus Heresy is a good place to start, where it all begins. Horus Rising.
