as for my vote ... no difference when armour is cosmetic (which was the last stated intention of the devs) then what difference does it make if your wearing a cosmetic helmet or not?
Yeah, heroes. We're playing as meat shields for these heroes and these heroes will be mostly Rogue Trader specials.
No difference. What's the point of having glorious space elf hair if i need to hide it? I want to be freeeeeeeeeee
Having armour to be just cosmetic always bugged me for this game, since being the opposite could help a lot in the asymetrical balance the devs seek. I mean, if armour had actual stats, the difference between shooting a marine, a light armoured eldar or a half-naked ork would be really noticeable (I get they could just tweak the TTK for every one of them, but with armour stats would be better IMO).
but then you have to account for players min/maxing .... tweaking their armour and equip builds for maximum effect while this is all fine as long as everyone has access to the same stuff ... then its your own fault for not doing it the "right way" (though personally that has always bugged me in relation to MMO builds) add the unlocking/aquisition mechanics and you start to move towards the situation where long term players (veterans) just start curb-stomping new players because they have the equip to select their min/max build from while the newb doesnt the devs wanted the game to be newb freindly .... so a day1 player still has a chance vs a day200 player
Apperntly, having a helmet is a moot item any how, its more for having the built in air re-breather, and HUD, any combat that occurs if the head is struck its pretty much game over reguardless of armor type, gene stealers kill termys all the time by going for the face. NOW Tau XV8 heads.... that's not were the pilots head is, there is a slit along the top edge of the chest piece of the power suits frame that's were the head of the pilot is. they ride in the XV8-9s like there small Gundam all in the chest.... so if they make the XV8-9 take extra damage from "head shots" then some one isn't doing the math right, case in point the current XV8-9s are 30-40% smaller then they should be a XV9 should be just a hair smaller then a Dreadnaught if you don't believe me read the Taros campaign book, they describe the XV9s as just as i stated above, small dreadnoughts... still don't believe me, the disk on the back is were the Tau pilot enter and exit, enless they force there children to pilot suits that hatch is too small. (almost the same size as the new Deathknell)
