Not wearing your helmet in to battle is something Sergeants and above do, at times, because they're wearing an iron halo which provides some protection and makes them more recognizable on the battlefield. The Codex Astartes does not support removing your helmet so you can "spit" at people.

Also, not all Chapters have the Betcher's Gland. It's not clearly stated who has it and who doesn't, but there's some pretty clear cases of Chapters not having it, like the Black Templar's. Their geneseed comes from the Imperial Fists, who DO have the Betcher's Gland oddly enough, but for whatever reason this wasn't passed on to their Second Founding Chapter. All of the cases I've read about where Astarte's have used their ability to spit acid and/or poison has been because it's a last ditch effort and they're out of options. It's not standard combat doctrine for any Chapter, as far as I know, to charge the enemy and spit at them on a regular basis.

The Imperial Fists gene-seed possesses two unique characteristics that are expressed in physiological and the behavioral terms. Physiologically, the Chapter has lost two of the organs particular to Space Marines: the Betcher's Gland, which allows the Marine to produce acidic spittle, and the Sus-an Membrane, which allows the Marine to enter a state of suspended animation.[3a] Behaviorally, the Imperial Fists are given to an obsession with conquering pain by force of will and discipline.[3a] The Chapter's obsession with will power and discipline is sometimes characterized as further involving a deep-seated drive towards self-sacrifice or penance. [8] This trait is often simplified as merely involving a stubborn disposition.[16a]
The Chapter considers the behavioral characteristics of its geneseed to be both a strength and a weakness. On the one hand, such tendencies engender stubborn conduct on the battlefield and ensure battle-brothers are more likely to fight on despite terrible injuries. On the other hand, Imperial Fists may subconsciously invite such injuries and difficulty, which can imperil battle planning and lead to unnecessary risks of personnel and material. Along these lines, the Imperial Fists are noted to be reluctant to accept the possibility of defeat when retreating would be the wisest course of action. exactly.
the pen and paper rpg and the videogame are not canon until approved (like the blood raven for expample). but forge world and black library are part of games workshop and are the same entity.

It's what their gene-seed has done since they were created by Games Workshop, it's part of the Gene-Seed a Space Marine receives and has been since very early on, possibly since right from the start.

Also, you the same guy from the Elite forums? if so; nice work on the vindicare assassin, I look forward to seeing him in the game.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Dreadknight and how it will be implemented in the Elite mod, thanks for taking the time to help make Dawn of War 2 Retribution, and Elite better with some really nice models.
