It really depends; some helmets look great, but if the facial customisation is any good it would obviously be worth going without. I'm not sure if any decision was ever reached about implementing some minor penalties for the helmless, but it'd be a nice touch.
Why would I NOT wear a helmet? It's like in Blackhawk down where he takes out his back plate and then gets shot in the back.
