your new so you didnt see what heavy bolters were, they were gloriously op and able to slay swathes of people and tanks. now personally i feel the nerf was a bit too strong - they now do the same damage per shot as a bolter despite being a much larger projectile but are far less accurate, and can fire for less time than a drum mag, albeit at a higher rof, and cannot even really scratch a vehicle any more, the change was needed and deserved, i just hope to find some nice mods for it in a box one day. edit - bad poll is bad.
Space marines in the fiction have superhuman senses, dexterity/aim, decades of constant training/fighting, and augmetics/wargear which assists with their aim/stabilization/etc. "Realistic" bolters would basically mean one-shot kill weapons that have auto-aim to simulate the superhuman ability of space marines. But that obviously wouldn't be very fun for the non-marine teams.
Soooooo you want every bolt from a heavy bolter to 1 shot whatever it hits? Can I have some of what you're smoking? That's some good shit.
HBs only had about 2 patches of glory; before, and after, they were/are struggling most of the time. As for the OP, points for creativity (crack addled fantasy?), but due to requirements like game play, I don't see that happening. People pull out the lore and "genetically engineered super soldiers" arguments for a variety of reasons, TTK, accuracy, ect. However, I always revert to game play>lore>reality. Concur, bad poll is bad.
But eldar have weapot that kills instantly and has no recoil and good rate of fire. Not fun for non-eldar teams, but not considered as a problem. And every ork has powerclaw. Making bolter realistic will only add some balance to underpowered now factions!
Of all the weapons, you chose the heavy bolter as the one to stand out as unrealistic? Personally, I would have gone with the powerfist!
QzQ, it's a fist, with a lot of power in it. So imagine a industrial sized bulldozer hitting a car, more or less.
Eldar tactical butts are unreal and should be nerfed. Not really relevant but the new Deatchwatch Kill-Team miniature boxset does allow you to make a marine with a heavy bolter/flamer combiweapon, at least. And I think I have seen Chaos autocannons with bayonets somewhere before..
