Edit version 2 - I'll make various updates to work on ideas that arise in the posts. I have been making a lot of my own Space Marines with two melee weapons. Usually two Chain Swords or Chain Axes. Likewise, using two Bolt Pistols in each hand, like a cowboy XD. What if the Devs incorporated this idea into the game? Where each unit could either have one Range (Pistol, Bolter, Guns, etc.) with one Melee weapon. This would be a balance between the two. But if a player went with two weapon types, like say Two Chain Swords. Then they would not be able to use range combat, but would have extra melee attacks. Likewise if they went with two ranged weapons (specific pistols) then they would have extra fire power. But their melee would be limited to using thw two pistols. One topic that has arisen is the use of shields. Units like Terminators, elite Space Marines and a few Orks would need a shield. Though I don't know what the Devs have in mind for switching between Melee and Range for the combat, I think the system would be similar for shields. Most shields for Infantry, not counting Terminators, have a Bolt Pistol in their shield. So I imagine they could use the pistol when in range and then use the shield when going into melee. Like wise the topic would have Pros & Cons Melee Combat with... With typical melee weapons: * Feints * Blocking * Hack, Bash, Slash, Stab, & Chop * Perry With Typical Ranged weapons * Bash & Smash - Not as powerful as a melee weapon type * Perry * Quick Shot (firing blindly without the crosshair) For Two handed weapons. There are some weapons that require two hands. Such as a heavy weapon for range like the Heavy Bolter and Plasma Cannon. But there are also a few Melee weapons that need two hands, like the Thunder Hammer for Space Marines or the Big Choppa for the Orks or the Daemon Weapons for Chaos Marines. Pros & Cons Pros - Melee * Extra Melee Damage * Faster attacks * Can attack after a block, perry, or other defensive moves. Cons - Melee * Striking with secondary weapon would prevent defensive moves like Block, perry, etc. * Cannot carry or operate range weapons * Vulnerable to Ranged weapons Pros - Shields * Increased melee defenses. * Shield can be used to push back opponents. * Depending on shield size it can also aid in Range combat: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhamm...PACE_MARINE_BOARDING_ASSAULT_UPGRADE_SET.html Cons - Shield * Depending on Shield Size, some areas of the body are vulnerable. * Shield reduces melee combos * Shields are vulnerable to armor penetrating weapons * Ranged based shields require setup before using weapon. * Ranged based Shield cannot protect Player while running & gunning. Pros - Range * increased rate of fire * Kick back incoming melee fighter Cons - Range * Longer reload times * weak melee attacks with pistols * weak defense against melee attacks What do you guys think?
Well, it is a good idea. It is actually a good twist to the gameplay, you may not do anything at range but when you get close you slaughter them. It would be best for jump units, but then it would maybe be a little OP
I would have to disagree with you there. Blocking is an essential skill for melee combat. I think the only disadvantage would be facing someone who can shot you. You can't block a well placed head shot or the raining fury of a Heavy Bolter. Though this topic does open the floor to the idea of pros and cons to duel melee. I'll do a quick edit with some ideas here.
Good idea but needs quite a bit of detailed thoughts e.g. how will blocking work? Will we use one weapon or both to block?
Thunder hammer is almost always a two handed weapon. You'd have to probably get a certain perk that allows you to get a storm shield or "true grit" to wield two two handed weapons.
no thunder hammer is almost always one handed. terminator use thunder hammer one handed. the two handed version is really rare.
