Why should they? It's the same faction...as long as one of them not switches to the Chaos or so... Umm? Let the Money balance? You think that's the solution? There will be a hell of "pay2win"-whining...
he means ingame currency oh and since they want to get the factions like in TT the IG will be a faction for its own and so it would be possible that they fight SM
Possible: Yes Will they? We'll see... If the players here know something about the WH40k-Universe - which I expect - they won't be much fighing between SM and IG or SoB...
I would not like that Eternal Crusade become some Pay 2 Win game. I wanted to say ingame currency for tanks i just used word resources instead to say currency, from earlier Faq I understand that the purchase of tanks and vehicles will demand resources you're getting in game and Weapons and other equipment you'll buy on the same principle used by the military, some kind of military points that you getting in the game.
The lore of 40K has space marines fighting the imperial guard all the time. Different marine chapters even fight each other and have longstanding rivalries. Orks basically fight anyone they can find all the time. The different chaos gods also fight amongst themselves. Tying a game set in the 40k universe to "factions" seems ridiculous to me. I obviously don't think everyone should just chill in one big city together until it's time to fight each other but removing the possibility of fighting some of the different races just to shoehorn in a WoW style two faction game does not appeal to me at all. Actually on topic about the squad system versus individual characters, Cart hit on one of the cooler parts i thought. The class system through squad members could be super flexible. Instead of buying a tank with whatever in game currency exists to just serve as basically a mount, why not let me bring a tech priest in my squad so I can ride in a tank or on bikes? Pretty easily balanced through movement restrictions (tanks can't go everywhere you can on foot) and restricting number and types of other squad members ie tech priests refuse to work with psykers and need specialized acolytes to work the machine spirits so heavier weapons are out too. I was pretty confused by the "aimbot" problems people had. I was envisioning that in addition to their "abilities" the player would have a basic set of orders for the rest of the squad. Most MMOs run on a pretty hefty RNG anyway why not let that decide when you say "fire at will" where your squad members are actually firing? If you want to concentrate your fire on a single target, you could bring along a kommisar who will tell your squad how to do it. Melee would work basically the same way, where you give general orders and your squad individually decides their biggest threats and acts accordingly. A squad system is also really the only way to incorporate morale into the battle which was pretty huge in Warhammer.
Some pretty cool ideas! Didn't thought about tech prists until now...There are lots of possibilities through the Squad-System...especially for balancing... I hope the Devs think about some of them...
Well, like I opened my first post here with, obviously these are ideas are well beyond the scope of what Behaviour is looking for in a suggestions forum. I just think that going more traditional MMO or even MMOFPS is just asking for the hype train to crash all over the game.
That idea could be good for a single player game, similar to Mass Effect, you have a team and you can equip them and give them commands or take control or them, i really dislike it for a multiplayer focused game, oh my AI controlled npcs are killing lots of other AI controlled npcs how boring cool is that!!. I understand a lot of this ideas try to recreate the 40 universe as you guys imagine when you play a TT game or you read a book, but really this is not a sugestion, a sugestion will add something to the core of the game ( Planetside 2 size map, even bigger battles, Space Marine combat system, 4 different factions) you are asking for a totally different game. Don't know how EC will be, but i'm 100% sure that what the devs want is not even close to any traditional MMO or MMOFPS (3rd)
Ok, at first: I know, that no game can ever bring in the full WH40k-Universe with all it's possiblities. But from what I see at the moment, here is a really small focus...featuring only the cream of the crop units of 4 factions. There will have to be a hell of a skill-tree and damn much weapons and equipment to maintain at least a little of long-time motivation for me. If not, it will be boring for me after a couple of days... What I (and perhaps Davroth too) wanted to achieve with this squad-system, was a possibility to bring in more different types of units, from the different factions... I don't want to have everybody running around with a squad...a Space Marine is already powerful alone..so there is no need for a squad...I just thought of a way, to match weaker units, such as Imperial Guards against (Chaos)Space Marines. My original idea was, to take the single Space Marine as reference, and try to match weaker units against them by number...this is why I startet with 5 IGs in my first post. And don't tell me, you wouldn't find it cool if you could slay through hordes of orcs with your Space Marine or stomp with your orc-boss through companys of IGs?!
Is this even being discussed? Have any of you people actually read the faqs or newsletters? You people are aware this is going to be a shooter right? Not a WoW clone, right? NPCs playing for you in a multiplayer shooter is a big NO-NO. If I die, I want to be killed by a player. If I lose, I want to lose to a player. Not some NPC pet, because make no mistake, that is what the op is suggesting, fucking-pets. Davroth, for the most part you obviously didn’t care enough to read the FAQs or newsletter. Increasing the character count from 500vs500 to at least 3500vs3500 will not put any strain on the servers? Really? REALLY?? Specially considering that 6000 of those players are AI controlled? And to insult to injury, you want to give them orders. Then you call the current model for the game a pseudo skillshot. HOW CAN YOU TALK ABOUT PSEUDOSKILL WHEN YOU ARE SUGGESTING NPC PETS?? Cart, You mentioned that AI squadmates will help fix balancing problems. Really? Help balancing problems by making the AI play for you? Awesome Fucking Awesome. And stop talking about the IG, they’re not even present at launch. Read the FAQs and the newsletters. All you are doing is making unhelpful suggestions and pissing off people who actually made an effort. /thread
