Harlequins Who Want Them?

Discussion in 'Eldar' started by Madhippy, Sep 5, 2014.

  1. no. solitaires are fast approaching primarch level, what with any being able to go toe-to-toe with a Phoenix Lord, who are most certainly primarch level.
the most basic harlequins are elites--a 'regular' harlequin is easily above a 'regular' grey knight.
  2. Dragonkindred Dragonkindred Arkhona Vanguard

Sweet. Thanks for letting me know.
  3. Dragonkindred Dragonkindred Arkhona Vanguard

It's been a long time since I played TT. I guess they have buffed Harlequins then?

Back in the day, going toe to toe with a Grey Knight would usually end with a dead harlequin. Granted, we're talking regular harlequin.
  4. Harlequins and Pathfinder/Ranger class would be the ONLY reasons I would create a craftworld eldar character.
  5. Solitaires have never been Primarch level as far as I know. They are VERY powerful, and I would as much as I would like to have one in my Masque think a little OP. And when/what source is the Pheonix Lord fight in? new to me also.

I think your power levels are a little skewed, did you happen to face then in RT when they were god awful and keep this irrational hate-on for them? its ok if you do, I HATE all things Necron from when they were artarded OP when they came out in the first codex I think.

I read a story and the only one I can think of when one fights a keeper of secrets on a croneworld. it was cool but ya not that beast. only in the army list posted in the Citadel Journal was he truly a monster. Dead hard RT/2nd but not that bad.

PS Harlequins faction post launch pls!
  6. regular harlequin is roughly equivilant to a regular grey knight in lore, IMO. nothing that concretely says so, but it makes sense to me, and rank and file GK's are roughly equal to vanguard/sternguard vets/sword brethren, though probably a tiny bit above on average due to the whole being a psyker thing. harlequins are above howling banshees.

i compared a solitaire to the banshee phoenix lord, im forgetting her name at the moment--nevermind its jain zar--and myself concluded that a solitaire would be a formidable opponent for her, if never able to beat her. Perhaps im underestimating her, and she might even be able to take on more than one at once.

i think a solitaire would give any primarch trouble, though would never be able to solo one. a full cast for a performace of the fall, however, would be more than a match for a primarch.
i actually LOVE harlequins--one of my favorite things in 40k. dont assume things. but a harlequin faction is never going to happen, and should never happen. each harlequin is elite class worthy, and they aren't numerous enough to be a faction--they are more rare than space marines.
  7. They used to be a stand alone faction in TT thats the sad thing, Funnily enough that was the time I began to lose interest in 40k, the day my army became a special unit only in a much larger army (I guess they wanted to sell lots of eldar figures).

Although powerful that was mostly close combat which meant very specific tactics and having enough cover to get close enough to do decent damage. It took good tactics to not get minced at range. Regular harlequins only had a 5/6 refractor save on a field, some had 4,5,6 on conversion fields, they were harder to hit but not hard to kill really once you hit them. Yeah the specials were harder but they were heroes and cost points accordingly.

Still having them in in any capacity will make me a happy gamer. Very welcome news!
  8. Your logic is flawed. No offense. Eldar are likely more rare than space marines, maybe not with their dark and backards cousins but ya. Maybe not really, but.. As for level of power and lethality, the basic trouper is not omfg op broken sauce... they are on par with any elite unit. one thing people comparing power levels between codeci some times dont take into account is they are not balanced between each other. Some are not balanced at all really. I can find some old art and story shows a pitiful human cultist kill a harlequin with a shitty knife. Power is all perspective, what author is writing about them, newest Codex out, after all GW wont sell many armies if they come out saying "ya these guys are ok but not thaaat good. could just buy Ultra Marines... " Now within the same codex I would say they are not much better than a banshee. Both have almost the same stats. The biggest difference is in gear. holo suits and flip belts vs aspect armour and banshee mask. weapons get more tricky. not alot. base models are damn near the same. So Again. Not. That. Powerful. in context.
  9. yes. elite unit. equal to grey knight, which is an elite unit. also, the way in which banshees are 'picked'/trained is FAR less specific and arduous than how harlies are.
  10. ya, we are not talking about their training. nor how they are picked. Grey Knights are elite units just like a Marine is an elite troop... next to a guardsmen. In game terms, a harlequin and a Banshee are both elites, and similar in points cost. Compare apples to apples here.
