Now that Harlequins have their own codex, and on the forums several people have pointed out possible conflicts between DE and CW, I believe, and obviously not at launch, that Harlequins should be their own faction. I don't care if you think that Harlequins are "rare." I see them every time I play TT.
Though I applaud you vigor, I don't agree that they should be separate. I'm one of those "I don't like possible conflicts" types. I'd like to see them being a sub-faction of both CE and DE can use, without them being able to attack CE and DE. it would probably make it harder for the devs, but it would suit the lore better.
You see Harlequins every TT game due to the new codex and how they bring much needed allies to the Dark Eldar. Some people still don't like the idea of Eldar and Dark Eldar being battle brothers and the Shuriken Cannons the Harleys bring give DE an important Str 6 shots to an army who is severely lack in that stat line on weapons. No matter how you look at it Eldar, Dark Eldar, and Harlequins are all the same race, Eldar at the end of the day. As I have said before I don't want to see Harlequins as a common troop unit due to the lore of how unique they are.
They're going to have to underpower Harlequins drastically if they want them as an entirely separate faction. Space Marines and Eldar Aspect Warriors being brought down to relatively even terms with the Ork classes was forgiveable in terms of balance, but Harlequins as low-tier as Ork Nobz? I don't want to see that.
Personally I think people are being blindly idealistic when they think the game will easily be able to sustain 10+ factions on an open map and still produce fun battles rather than mega-stomps all the time due to over fragmentation, so adding such a minor faction as Harlequins seems like a bad idea to me. Adding any faction (even my beloved Dark Eldar) seems like a bad idea to me at this point though, so take that for what it is.
I would love for them to make an appearance in any shape or form. If they do get added tho I can see them being an elite hero or something for Eldar from all walks of life. Would love to see a harlequin kiss in action.
I think it's hilarious people think there is a chance in hell we'll get Harlies or Deldar. They're already going back on promises they can't keep and you genuinely think they're going to deliver extra shit?
