I don't think Imperial Guard should be free to play, Orks and Free 2 Players tend to be almost identical in their thought process, unless they join a clan in which case they might be a bit more organized, or when they see an Ork Nob they might be inspired to follow him because he looks a bit more badass than others, then again, that might not happen, and the Orks might just be zerging around without any sort of command, at least, the f2pers, the ones who pay to play will probably do better.

Imperial Guard can't be added as a faction with regular guardsmen, you'd need to give them specialist units only, so kasrkin, sanction psykers, stormtroopers, ogryn, commissar and all that, if they have to fight as imperial guardsmen they'll just get cut to bits.

Okayyyy now you're making things up. They can team up but there's no point in there existence if they need another team to carry them. Is there any source for the last sentence?

You kind of contradicted yourself there, just a little.

Yes, ordinary guardsmen will be cut to bits. But you don't want them F2P? They're the definition of cannon fodder, a perfect class to make F2P.

There are plenty of instances where the IG have become disorganized mobs on the battlefield. And all you need to do is nudge the players into proper squads to get some of that organization.

So we have to force new players to do things? Good plan good plan.

Just because they get cut to bits isn't a reason to make them a F2P faction, in fact, I'd say it's a reason not to.

F2Pers don't want to play a class that just gets 1shot by nearly everything in the game, and if they don't get 1shot, then it breaks the lore unless they suddenly have carapace armour or something, flak vests don't do much versus any weaponry in w40k.

I think it's a better idea to have them be a paid race and give them specialist units rather than just regular imperial guard, those might be able to take a few more hits than regular imperial guard soldiers

I like that. Flak vests are there to recycle and make you feel nice.

You don't understand the point of an F2P class.

The point of having an F2P class is to advertise the game. People will play the boyz and say "This game looks awesome. I want to do the things I can see the paying-players do. I'll go find my wallet." That's the entire reason Behavior is including an F2P race in the game at all: to let undecided players get their feet wet, see how kickass the game will be, and then jump in themselves. The point of the boyz is NOT to give a boost to the Orkz. People playing the boyz will be just as likely to be a Space Marine, a Chaos Marine, or an Eldar, as they are to be a paying Ork player. That is what I meant when I said that the Ork boy population will be transient: if Behavior has their way, no one will remain as an Ork Boy, anymore than they would remain as a Guardsman or a Chaos heretic, should those classes become F2P. In those cases, they are not making Behavior money by being F2P. Remember that Behavior is a business, and wants to make money. So they recognize the existence of the F2P crowd, accommodate them with the Boyz, and will take use the game as an advertisement, something like "Look at this shit. Did you see that guy crush you with his jetpack and thunder hammer? Don't you want to do that? Then by the game!" That's why including more F2P classes is a good thing, it gives people more ways to see the game, and potentially buy the game itself, therefore adding to Behavior's coffers.

The F2P is about getting people in the game, not making the game fair for them. Remember the chess analogy; a pawn can kill a queen if utilized correctly. But a pawn isn't as useful of a piece as, say, a bishop or a rook. If a guardsman can be cut to pieces venturing out on his own, that's only extra motivation to group up with his fellows and overpower his enemies through force of arms. That's how guardsmen work in the first place. Other guardsman units can certainly be P2P, but having the basic guardsman be F2P is as sensible as doing it for the boyz.

Whaaaaaat?! Okay that makes very little sense if you have one epicly failed faction then you just look bad PERIOD therefore nobody buys the game.

What's not to understand? Look, when you download a demo of a video game, the resultant download is often a very inferior version of the finished project. You might get half an hour to an hour's worth of gameplay, it might still be a little buggy, and most of the more enjoyable features are locked. Do you look at that and think "Wow, that demo doesn't let me do anything! The full game must suck too!"

Of course not. You recognise that the demo only exists to demonstrate the game and some of the things it can do. It's supposed to get you interested in the full game. It's an advertisement.

That's the whole point of the Boyz and Guardsmen too. They're not supposed to be able to stand toe-to-toe with Space Marines or Eldar. It wouldn't make sense for them to be able to stand up to Space Marines and Eldar. All they're supposed to do is demonstrate the game and advertise how it plays. After that, players can decide for themselves whether or not they want to pay for a better character (after seeing paying players in action), keep playing as an Ork Boy for a bit longer, or that Eternal Crusade is not for them. At the same time, it's not impossible to play as an Ork Boy either. It's more challenging, sure, but you can still get some enjoyment out of things. More than enough for you to decide whether EC is a game you want to sink cash into.
