Devs are always watching, you should already know by now About colours, we have not yet decided if we gonna have variations within a Chapter. We still need to do more work on our gameplay to see how important are the colours. If we do get variations in, we will still need to see how far we can have them from each others. Something we don't want, is too many colours - we are a massive game, it could become really hard to tell Factions apart
But personally, I wouldn't see any issues with up to 4 small variations within each Chapters/Craftworld/Clanz/Warbands. Oh! And we are also looking right now on how we could display Squad/Strike Force Emblems and Colours on your character. It is a super hard task and we might end up only showing those on Banners, Profile pages and Playercards - but I just wanted to let you know that there are lots of things that need to be taken into consideration when it comes to a Character Colour-scheme. Does it makes sense? I hope this was useful : )
hmmm so there is a chance for stuff like http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Sons_of_the_Cyclops#.U1_BlqJ8TQU?
We wouldn't go as far as creating successor Chapters though. The colour variations will stay within a Chapter's main colors exactly to be able to know of which Chapter a Character is. And Squad/Strike Force heraldry if displayed, will need to be secondary to the Chapter's identity.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Army_Badge this is an in lore solution for showing different simbol (strike force/squad) without sostitute the chapter simbol.
Thanks Grigdusher - Exactly the material we are looking at right now : ) But in this case, it would be more for our Campaign Badges. We are looking at additional options for Squad and Strike Force identification (we have some margin from GW to add to the lore as well - but I don't think we'll go as far as the Deathwatch portrayal of a multi-chapter group)
@griddusher your source is wrong if you look in any Space marine or imperial guard army book then the book explains that its either honor /campaing badge which your source claim is an army badge . an army badge is the heraldy of the actual chapter forexample the Ultramarines have a Capital U and even scouts in the Ultramarines have army badge and scouts is initinates if they pass the scout period they become Space marines but as soon they jump into their scout armour they get assigned the army / chapter badge edit: squad markings is used for each Company but they have 4-6 different markings for each unit : elites , tactical , devastator , fast attack squads but not scout squads
