Grey Knights Rp (interest/character Thread)

Discussion in 'Role Playing' started by Gideon-085, Apr 22, 2015.

  1. Let’s go a-demon-killing! I’ve been tossing around the idea for a Grey Knights RP for some time here, and think it would be pretty damn cool myself. I’d personally want to do a straightforward assault on a Chaos-taken planet, that or scouring a massive, powerless space hulk that’s drifting through space; I have a rough idea of what I’d want to do enemy NPC-wise, maybe a greater Daemon if someone wants to take the challenge of running a character in a Nemesis Dreadknight . Of not we’ll just go with “normal” Daemons, maybe some possessed Chaos Space Marines.

If anyone is interested in playing Daemons hit me up, I’d think that it’d be a cool departure from normal.

Now, I dunno if this is against the rules or something, but, I was thinking of doing this in a little different way than other RP’s, partly because it’s a system I’m more familiar with, and partly because the Grey Knights aren’t exactly a traditional Chapter now are they?

Now, make whatever class of Grey Knight you want, shy of Grandmaster, I’ve reserved the Chief Librarian for myself, feel free to make anything else! Equipment is pretty much whatever you want, just stay within the bounds of what the Grey Knights are issued normally, their equipment is as follows.

    - The Nemesis Force Weapon: The characteristic weapon of the Grey Knights is theNemesis force weapon. It can take the form of a halberd, sword, mace, axe, or the rarer hammer[16f]. It is a powerful force weapon, housing a psi-matrix attuned to the unique psyche of its owner. In original versions, the haft incorporated a bolter weapon, similar to the Adeptus Custodes guardian spear; on newer models of the Grey Knights the bolter is a wrist-mounted storm bolter, incorporated into the armour itself. Like all force weapons, the power of the weapon itself directly corresponds to the psychic talent of the wielder; as the Grey Knights are some of the greatest psykers of the Imperium, a Nemesis weapon is a truly devastating weapon.

    - Incinerator: Similar to aHeavy Flamerbut fuelled with special mix of consecrated promethium and blessed oils which are especially effective against daemons.

    - Psycannon: Bolt weapons firing ammunition impregnated with negative psychic energy.

    - Aegis Armor: The suits of power and Terminator armour worn by the Grey Knights are incredibly well crafted lattice of psychoconductive filaments and amulets*; anointed and inscribed with prayers and wards, ritually consecrated and psychically charged. Working in tandem with the Grey Knights' formidable psychic powers, the Aegis armour protects the wearers from the effects of the Immaterium and the Daemons it spawns. The armour's ritual blessings and psychic resonance also serve to confound the perception of any enemy, resulting in an effect called the Shrouding. The psychically charged nature of the armour allows its mere presence to induce intense terror and pain in any nearby daemons and warp spawn, also loosening their grip on the material realm.

    - Psilencer: A heavy weapon of Xenos origin, whether it was given to the Grey Knights Chapter or stolen is unknown. They function by channeling the psychic might of the user where it is not only focused but amplified. The unique design means that it lacks a triggering mechanism but instead the wielder channels his psychic might into the containment core of the weapon - after which, focusing crystals channel the resultant energy into a refined azure energy pulse capable of destabilizing the physical form of a Daemon.

    - Dreadnoughts: Like other Space Marine Chapters, mortally wounded Grey Knights are sometimes placed within the massive battle armour known as a Dreadnought. Unlike other Chapters, however, Grey Knights do not look upon this extension of their life as an honour - all Grey Knights desire to be brought to the crypts underneath the Temple of the Emperor on Titan and laid to rest with their brothers over continuing life inside a machine. As such, Grey Knight Dreadnoughts are extremely rare.

    - Nemesis Dreadknight: The chapter uniquely has access to a large suit of mechanised armour known as a Nemesis Dreadknight. The Dreadknight is designed to face Greater Daemons in one-on-one combat. This huge construct towers over even dreadnoughts. (Unless we decide to bring in a Greater Daemon, do me a favor and don’t run around with one of these.)

Also, I’m not going to be doing any of the Skill Points stuff. You make your character, you give them a reasonable amount of skill for their age and specialty, and play them appropriately. If you don’t, I’ll simply step in and say something, no biggie, below is the required character skeleton, feel free to use as much or as little detail as you want, more detail is suggested, but you /can/ develop such things through the roleplay.

I believe I might be interested as well, maybe as place to cool off from band of exiles I'll think over a character sheet after brushing up on the grey knights, they aren't my personal favorite army but I have two of their codex books, including the one with the infamous incident with the sisterhood.

Traits & Flaws seems like someone wants the 'Urian Sheet' back...

    The Urian sheet is basically:

    1st trait free
    2nd trait = 1 flaw
    3rd trait = 2 flaws
    4th trait = 3 flaws
    5th trait = 5 flaws
    6th trait = 7 flaws
    7th trait = 9 flaws
    8th trait = 10 flaws
    9th trait = 12 flaws
    10th trait = 15 flaws

This way it was balanced. Usually there were also tiers:

I.e. Advanced Melee Combat -> Superior Melee Combat -> Expert Melee Combat

So: 1st trait - Adv. Melee Combat
2nd trait - Sup. Melee Combat
3rd trait - Exp. Melee Combat

Flaw 1 - Bad at Ranged combat
Flaw 2 - Bulky (slower movement)

In-RP it usually was then that if this char uses ranged weapons he barely hits and/or makes less damage than his colleagues, whereas he would be more precise with melee weapons. One reason why it got removed is because the start characters varied too strongly.

You would be better off just saying everyone gets X bonuses and Y flaws rather than let ppl decide for themselves because someone will abuse the system to make a superior character than the others.

And since you mentioned skill points and what not, they only apply to the legacy system in this Forum and are for general reference of the GM and Player of what they are capable, since often it is hard to judge and you may meet players who cannot accept that their char cannot do a certain action or are also just mortals and have no plot-armor.

Other than that, I will decide my participation on the full list of players. Though I find it a bit unfair that you as GM steal a player character spot as Super Duper Librarian. Because (since I don't know how you RP) I fear you will do the glory-hog as Super Anti-Daemon Banisher and what not when the rest of the party is dying.

All I am saying is: Don't ever glory-hog as GM-Player and/or through NPCs because it negates the players decisions and actions throughout the RP, more info to it and others here:

  4. Aye, I could see the use of such a system, I'll add that in later.
As for my pick of the Chief Librarian, if someone else wants it, go ahead! I can understand your feelings, I would be distrusting of me if I just popped in and jacked a Grey Knights Chief Librarian. I well know the pain of a GM that glory hogs the whole RP, or makes a character that basically one-ups everyone elses and then hide behind the GM title. It gets pretty annoying. If you want me to surrender the Chief Librarian I'm more than willing to, I'll stick to my Daemons.

I will tell you once I see who / how many actually participate if I join. Cuz if I join most likely I wanna hog him :p (or not, idk as of yet)

    Name: Carolus
    Pronunciation of name: Kar-uh-luh s
Titles: Vanguard of the Varan IV purgation, Incinerator weapons specialist, the bloodless purifier
    Occupation: Grey knights Purifier

Personality: A guardian of the ancient and shadowy vaults of mount Anarch, Carolus like a lot of the other members within order of purifiers is a distant man often aloof even from the other grey knights of the chapter regarding his battle brothers with distrust even at this high echelon of imperial power. a strong believer in the need to cleanse any battle he graces with the fires of purgation Carolus tolerates not any trace of the ruinous powers to remain in his sight, once he arrives in a conflict he has been known to set entire hab block ablaze with holy fire without even uttering a word.

    Likes: His incinerator
Dislikes: The ruinous powers in all its representation, sisters of battle
Mental traits: Will react violently to chaos unless specifically ordered not to, is single minded and judicious in the application of fire to literally everything he faces. He will however resort to a tactical approach if faced with superior foes.

    True age: 585
    Appearance age: 30
    Birthday: July

    Skin colour, ethnicity: white, Saxon
    Height: 6.8 feet
Weight: 1.8 tons (with armor and incinerator)
Hair: clean flaxen hair, is short and unkempt with uneven lengths.
Eyes: Brown eyes, in a subtle manner they show his age despite his otherwise appearance.

Description: From a point of view of augmentation he is an unremarkable member of the grey knights, a clean shaven stern looking man who visibly shows his experience through his eyes when they are visible, he has two moles on his right cheek and a wide diagonal cut scar on his forehead.

Attire / armor: clad in standard grey knight power armor with the white crusader helm to represent that he is a member of the order of purifiers. less prominent parts of the armor appear heavily singed from protracted exposure to the super high intensity of the incinerator heat, and the front of the armor is riddled with pits and scratches to which the majority of incoming fire was directed. On the back of the armor are two heavily armored fuel canisters which retain the majority of fuel needed for the heavy incinerator and allow for sustained bursts of fire without running the risk of depleting promethium reserves. on the left pauldron a small symbol with the three letters ETE were arranged in a unique pattern in the corner of the large curved metal plate.

Large equipment: Incinerator flame weaponry held in right hand with promethium fuel feeder linking back to the armored canisters on the back of Carolus's power armor.
Small equipment: Storm bolter mounted on left hand wrist
Weaponry: Nemesis force sword in pristine condition on the back of Carolus's utility belt just below the armored promethium canisters.
Ammunition: promethium, lots and lots of promethium... oh and some storm bolter rounds.

    Psychic specialization: Daemonology (sanctic)

Backstory: A hardliner for the need to purge every location of which the ruinous powers have set foot upon with cleansing fire, Carolus was the vanguard of a squad of grey knights purifiers who were dispatched to Varan IV to eliminate a dangerous Khornate cult of whose bloodletters had overtaken an entire hive city. having chosen one particular incinerator to aid in his assault Carolus engaged in the purgation of hive block after hive block literally burning both traitor and warp spawn alike out of every location in which he stepped. It is said that through the judicious use of this incinerator Carolus ensured that he spilled no blood as he eliminated the cult thereby denying the chaos god of one of his sources of power and weakened the chaotic presence on the hive world as a result. Once the greater daemon fell in the heart of the city it was banished humiliated into the warp having been denied much of the blood it had hoped for in the aftermath of the hive cities take over, it cursed Carolus and earned the grey knight the title of the bloodless purifier for the result of his actions on Varan IV.
