Sell me on the Grav Cannon. I mean I've already got it, so you know I don't need to be SOLD on it per say....but help me justify it as a load out option. I enjoy it, I do. Graphically I love it, both weapon model and effect. I feel like a Necron almost haha. Gameplay wise....I'm on the fence. There are times when I seem to melt someone and I'm like whoa what just happened and then others(more often sadly) that I'm just left a little underwhelmed by it. As for it's "intended" AV role I know it's not supposed to be a heavy damage dealer and supposed to be a support, I still feel like it's tickling a little too much. I think it could use a smidge boost on Vehicles at the least. Or am I wrong and I'm just not using it right?(Which could mean I personally am not using it right or I'm not using it right because derp you're doing it wrong and need to be in premade coordinated groups).
The Grav cannon can be great on melee enemies. It may not be the best weapon in our bag of tricks, but crushing an opponent swinging at air only for them to die just out of range of you is delicious.
It was fantastic on release, but was unfortunately over-tuned damage wise, especially against vehicles. Nowadays, I too find it hit and miss. Sometimes I can't keep the beam on a lunging melee, and it's really easy to friendly fire as you sweep across trying to pin them down. It feels like this is a latency issue, because if you can get beam on them properly, and have it stick, then they're locked down tight and fodder for anyone to shoot at leisure. I can't sell you on it sorry, since I keep trying to pick it up myself, and putting it down after going 50/50 at best on it working out for me.
It only really seems worth it against eldar vehicles since technically the dps is higher and the other vehicles generally don't need to be slowed down to be hit as they will eventually hit a bump and come to a full stop anyway. But even then if something is zipping by at full speed it will likely just continue outside of LOS with sheer momentum while barely having been slowed down or taking any damage.
It's a bad solo weapon (unless you engage a clueless enemy), any other weapon outdamage it. But when playing with a partner or with guildmates, it's insane.
There is a recoil reduction attachment and a +10% DPS attachment. With the attachments it has substantially reduced recoil and 198 infantry DPS.
The Grav-Cannon is good against Eldar (mobility is kinda like their thing and it grounds the Hawks), Grav-Tanks, Ork Vehicles (they can barely move without being hit by the Slow) and it got a nice long range. Though it is a bit hard to use against Infantry if it isn't braced...
Cannon? Burns Eldar like nobody's business. ESPECIALLY THEIR INSUFFERABLE FLOATING TANKS. Meh against infantry unless you engage clueless enemies with no nearby cover. Ok against other vehicles. Awful weapon to use unless you have some dedicated support to cover your ass OR you go out of your way to stay close to your team. 100% support weapon.
Grav gun and cannon both are not meant to be effective in solo runs, since you need a competent and aware teammate to use its applied effects for you. Its completely insane utility support weapon.
Personally, hate it the fact that you also get heavy ass recoil with even bracing was dumb to me. Going to try the gravgun next time I touch my space wolf though. Hopefully, it's not as terrible. Pretty much just use it against vehicles if I ever use that loadout.
