I'm stuck guys, I have to decide, Kingdoms of Alamur OR Dragon age origins. I need something to play over the coming holidays.
Kingdoms if you just want to be one guy/gal and fight stuff in a typical third person melee game. However, ranged combat is kinda goofy with a mouse and keyboard. Reminds me of Fable. Dragon Age is a longer game, but I personally dislike the near over reliance on mid battle pausing and order issuing if you are playing on harder difficulties. However, game has mods available.
Definitely Dragon Age: Origins if it's the Ultimate Edition we're talking about here. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was great, but Origins' additional DLC massively expands the size of the game and contains some of the best bits.
I'd go for Origins: the only thing Amalur does better is the combat, and that becomes stale in a couple of hours once you realise that even in the hardest difficuly setting the challenge is basiccaly non existent. Origins on the other hand has reasonable tactical combat, good story and characters and a preety good and vast world to enjoy (at least in my opinion)
Check out Project Zomboid if you wanna get something for the holidays. Nothing is as creepy as when you've been scratched by a zombie, not knowing if you're infected or not.
I'd get DA:O. Remember that Inquisition is supposed to be released around October(I think?) so this would probably be a nice time to get into the trilogy. Plus I've heard of KoA having some issues. I have personally experienced only 1(albeit, very major/gamebreaking) issue while playing it. All my save files got corrupted or something because whenever I try to load one, the game crashes. Even new playthroughs/games after I discovered this issue. It was GG after that. I put something like 25 or 30 hours into my game. Couldn't find a solution to the problem. Haven't touched KoA since.
