Giving Melee back an On Hit Damage Mitigation Buff

    I like that idea a lot. As OP said, it would not increase TTK for charging melee,but once they are in melee combat.
    Like in TT "You don't shoot into melee"

  2. We also didn't have the current TTK then. Melee was overloaded for sure then, not so much now.

    10-15% mitigation isn't going to wildly change balance, and it's only active if the melee player is actively engaged in combat. They're still just as fair game as they are now when down range.

    Ok, I wasn't sure if they had strong ranged.

    My feeling is that melee in EC is a painfully literal translation of RPS that is at odds with the game style. Further that it is a poorly implemented set of janky moves and lunges ill suited to its purpose.

    My initial feeling about melee in EC has remained with me 260+ hours played later. Melee combat looks awkward, feels awkward, plays awkwardly and the only reason it was popular was because once you got within melee range you could murder ranged players without much opportunity for them to fight back.

    Perhaps we are not on the same page when it comes to fluidity. When I hear the developers say fluid in relation to melee combat, I take it to mean connected and more flowing. What we have is a bunch of janky moves you string together to win (or not win). And all the while this combat is going on, it looks like 2 people playing Pokémon with Wh40K avatars badly grafted on top.

    It is not, in my opinion, super effective.

    I would favour a melee system that values positioning, movement and a simpler system of strong and weak strikes.

    I understand the premise and the basic concept,

    what I also understand is bE's apparant inability to do anything by halves ...

    they have demonstrated time and time again that when they make a change they MAKE A CHANGE ... changing 3 or 4 things dramatically when a single change would of sufficed
  5. Sadly yes that does seem to be an occurrence.

    I would gladly delay adding this sort of system if they would just first fix Dbash>Dead Ranged vs. Melee situation and see how balance pans out then.

Part of the reason for making this suggestion is that with how weapons are progressing, TTK favoring ranged etc. I'm viewing playing Melee less as a viable killing unit(they are but not on the same level as ranged) and more of a disruptor/tie up people for awhile so THEY'RE not shooting at YOUR guys.

    For that to happen though, Melee need to not fall over to a stiff breeze heh. I would actually be ok with Melee damage being brought down further if it meant that Melee gets to jump into the back lines and just bug the SHIT out of Ranged until they really focus him down.

    I've been pondering the whole EC melee thing for a very long time. What if this, what if that and so on. I'm not prepared to make a proposal half-cocked. I'm still writing the damn thing.

    Meanwhile it has swung between not fun for anyone not playing melee but so viable you can't ignore it, to not fun at all and not viable. The current back swing we find ourselves approaching middling viability but still not fun for anyone.

    Fun is subjective of course.

    This melee stuff needs to be more fluid and yes the i-frames need to go. A quicker evasive dodge which perhaps covered a touch more ground would have to replace it however.

    I'm not too fond of the idea because I never thought it really brought anything interesting to the table. To me, it's really just an arbitrary stat gain that you know is there. I like everything to have some sense of a lore explanation as to why it might exist, and randomly becoming harder to kill while you hit stuff never made sense to me.

    In addition to that, I think melee is already in a solid place with a few fixes that need to be done. Once those fixes are done, melee will be healthier. If ranged are still dominating after fixing the offending problems, we can very simply increase overall TTK of everyone. The higher the TTK, the further in favor of melee the balance gets shifted (assuming melee classes regain their melee advantage through the fixes).

    Other than the stuff that needs to be fixed up, I actually don't mind the melee system as it is now. I'd be sad if it got drastically changed beyond recognition. I hope by increasing fluidity they just mean better move and animation transitions, rather than changing the whole system.

  10. Just give ground assaults(Sluggas, Banshees, GAs...CSM melee) +20 Toughness. I feel this'd fix a lot of things wrong with them.
