Ok so, I don't know what the hell is going on with the "balance" in the game at the moment, but it seems to me that every patch ruins or makes great something for another faction. I get that balance can be tricky, and it can also alienate a large majority of the player base if done wrong. So I was thinking on something that makes LSM unique; for example: Chaos get the God Marks and their Sorcers Chain Heals, and the Autocannon. Orks get ridiculous Heavy Attack melee speed, the Waaagh near the end of the match, and extra health. Eldar are faster, more agile, and get six classes, not to mention their vehicles are also very agile and hard to kill. LSM "had" the Plasma Cannon and Rites of Fire Crozius, which were probably the only things being used because they were reliably the only things unique to LSM that could put them on par with other factions. Add on top of this the playerbase for LSM and it just "seemed" like everyone playing LSM had those weapons. So, people bitched and they got nerfed into the ground along with some other things that didn't need it, like the combat knife and Apothecarion Beacon. The Rites of Fire Crozius was great as I could actually stand a chance in melee against Orks and Eldar and so actually played WP a lot, now I have no real reason to. Now that I play Tactical I find a lot of glaring issues, namely that their supposed versatility isn't really there. Yeah I get that they can use a variety of weapons, but if the weapons themselves aren't worth using, notably the most iconic of SM weapons, the Bolter, then what's the point of even playing this class aside from a suicide cap unit? I do alright with the Bolter I admit but it has a lot of issues as well, namely being severely underpowered for an automatic grenade launcher; at least the way I see it. The Melta seems underwhelming along with the other weapons the Tactical can field; except maybe the Plasma Gun. Anyway, my proposed idea for making LSM more unique is Sub-Faction bonuses. It'd work in a passive buff and/or LP reduction for whichever Sub-Faction you'd pick; giving each of five Sub-Factions their Chapter specific thing; Space Wolves and having slightly better melee damage and an LP reduction on melee weapons. Dark Angels and having an LP reduction on Plasma weaponry and having a slight defensive buff against Plasma weaponry. Imperial Fists would have a passive defensive buff which reduces suppression and slightly reduces incoming damage, as well as having an LP reduction on Boltguns. Ultramarines would be the most well rounded out of all the Sub-Factions, having at least half of the LP reduction of other Sub-Factions. (i.e. Standard Boltgun is 300 LP. The Ultramarine Boltgun would be 250 LP and an Imperial Fist Boltgun would be 150 LP; which would also stack with the AP slot for Boltgun Mastery, giving even more of an LP reduction; add other weaponry like Chainswords, etc for a slight LP reduction) Blood Angels with the Jump Pack Assault Marine and Ground Assault Marine would have an LP reduction for their equipment since they specialize in Assault and Shock Tactics as well as having better fuel recovery for jetpacks.
None of those bonuses are going to make a noticeable difference in the long-run. I hate to shoot you down, dude, but as nice as the Chapter bonuses would be, the other factions also pick from sub-factions as well - eventually, they'd have to give them to the other factions anyway, even though they're pointless. An LP cost reduction and a slight buff is not going to change a thing. I don't even know what's going on with balance in this game any more. I've almost given up on trying, really. LSM are horrifically underpowered and the Eldar continue to faceroll 90% of the matches they enter. Some real strides are going to be needed for LSM to be unique compared to the other three. Sigh. I miss the days where all that we complained about were Shieldbros...
You are wrong buddy, BA should get better melee damage not LP reduction of wargear. They and Flesh Tearers are the most brutal assault Assault marines.
I think you need the Codex Astartes http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/suggestions-for-lsm-mechanics.59295/
Dev's said they intended to give all sub-factions for all the factions unique stuff. Another part of core content that's missing and will be added down the road later. Maybe.
Plasma cannons nerfed into the ground, yeah no they're fine. The crozius I agree should be nerfed along with burny choppa and the poison weps for chaos and eldar. Status effects are stupid on melee focused classes. Apothecarion Beacon is pretty much the same as the dok bomb except its harder to hit. All in all these are fine and nothing is wrong.
dont count on subfaction uniqueness anymore .... as soon as they announced second founding skins they practically said no subfaction will be unique
As a initial change, how about the Gladius for Lsm Tacticals, same damage and speed of a knife but with durability of a sword. It could/should give the tac more of a chance in mele. Whislt mele could with tier 3/4 weapons still hold the advantage.Fitting cost should be appropriate, 100lp maybe .
That's just Ork knuckles but with high durability. Space marines are supposed to have more of a specialty in ranged, yeah? Giving tacts a faster but weaker sword won't fix anything and will be complained about untill its removed.
LSM are supposed to be all about working together as cogs in the great Legion machine. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts and all that. So what the devs should do is if 3 or more LSM from the same squad are, let's say within 8-10 meter of each other, they get a buff. This can be reload speed, accuracy, higher suppression, lower suppression for themselves, longer bleed out time, faster revival time, stamina/armor regen, a toughness buff, melee durability buff, lots of things. This would encourage LSM to stick together with their squad, keep track of who is where, and generally make them play the tactically minded Astartes they are supposed to be. You can have it interact with sub-faction buffs by giving the Wolves a melee buff, BAs lifesteal, stuff like that.
