It's funny. My main faction on the TT has always been Space Marines. Ever since I picked up my first Tactical Squad back in 1996 as a little boy (I was 6, ironically a friend of my from school got me into it) I have had a soft spot for Humanity's last hope. But, over the years I have read up on the lore of other races and checked out their weaponry and just gotten a feel for them. During the days of 4th Edition I finally caved and decided it was time to start another army. I needed some variety in my life lol. So, I picked up some bugs. I couldn't help it. I utterly adore the way Nids look. They've just got an awesome feel to them. I also liked the vast difference in play style that they provided over my years of experience playing Space Marines. They posed a challenge. I now had to completely relearn the TT because the tactics I employed as an SM simply didn't work for the Nids. It was a blast. Unfortunately, due to a moving accident I lost all of my models, SM and Nids alike, that I had been collecting over the years when a very large and heavy bed frame fell over and utterly decimated my armies in probably one of the saddest days of my young life (A lot of time, money, and effort went into these bad boys). I salvaged what I could of my armies, which wasn't much. My nids took the worst of it. It took me several more years before I started collecting again. Pain of loss, if you will lol. But, naturally I restarted my Space Marine army again. Only this time I decided that I didn't want to play another generic Chapter (Sorry, Ultramarines). So, the models that I still had from before got stripped and are slowly being repainted (I don't have as much time these days) as Crimson Fists. Mostly because I'm in love with the color scheme and also because Pedro Kantor's model is SWEEET looking. After collecting for a while and playing more and more again I decided it was time to start yet another new army. But, I couldn't go back to nids. I decided I needed something different. No real reason why. So, I chose Eldar. Boy howdy, what an army. Guys are utterly lethal (Pain in the arse to put together and paint....freaking SUPER small parts). Anyway, I digress. So the point of this thread is to ask how many folks are getting antsy about the other races? More to the point, how many of you are avid fans of one faction but find yourselves excited to try something new and why?
I've always had a soft spot for Elves in fiction. Not 100% sure where it came from. I think it's a sort of Sam Gamgee fascination with them. However, in 40K - at least in the Dawn of War games - I really quite like the Tau. I like their self-assuredness that, to the rest of the galaxy, is at best naivety and at worse plain stupidity. Either faction I'd be happy to play as, for release my options are obviously limited to the Eldar.
why am i not surprised about chaos lol i'm looking forward to T'au and their mechsuits..that should be interresting
Love the Space Marines and the Crimson Fists specifically. But oh boy i cant wait until we even hear something about the Tau. Seriously, they gotta be the first race added after the main four, even if it maybe doesnt makes that much of a sense for them to come to the planet. I have high hopes though since in one of Angry Joe's interview with the team they said they will add later on a continent with the Tau. (which will appear for free for everyone and you'll be able to fight the tau just the same but to play AS a tau you'll have to pay, which is quite right really)
According to the Q&A all expansions are free. DLCs will not be. The difference is that DLCs will literally just have extra stuff that isn't necessary. So, instead of just taking the free expansion that adds, say, Necron Lords you can buy the DLC that has a special Necron Lord with some cooler looking something or other. That's how it was explained there. So, I imagine that if and probably when the Tau are added they will be playable by anyone who doesn't have a F2W account. So, if you bought the game.
I'm mostly excited about getting to play as Chaos when warriors start to get in. Hoping one day the game will let me represent dark lord Malal as a Son of Malice <3 But other than purging heretics as a heretic, I want to play as the Tau, and really hope that Tau will get a melee option, as I love their aesthetics, but dislike their fear of melee. The Tau do have a general who prefers melee combat, so I'm hoping they will get their sword.
The Tau don't necessary "fear" melee so much as they suck at it. On the TT they have the lowest STR in the game. So, while they WS isn't really that bad they don't do a lot of damage to basically anything in CC. So, locking them in CC makes them easy to beat. What they excel at is pissing me off from range with their better than average weapons. The majority (All but like 2 I think) weapons of the Tau have a Str5+ which is above average for any faction in the game. So, when they hit at range you feel it. They also benefit from utilizing mostly mechs which allow them to carry a greatly variety of heavy weapons unimpeded by weight. However, they also have the Kroot which I imagine would be their melee focused class since they can actually do some decent damage in CC.
Then if the Tau get the Kroot, they better add a Great Knarloc as a hero or something. Who doesnt want to eat some space marines as a T-rex
Commander Farsight no longer works for the Ethereals and is a traitor to the Tau as a whole in that respect He basically took his giant battle suit and sword and said "fuck you guys and your horrible melee modifier" I'm taking my sword and kicking ass the proper way So if your going Tau most likely not getting that sword. The most melee like thing you'll get is a useless ceremonial sword or a choppa in your skull
