There has been plenty of contradictory information about this. Some people say that Phil Fish in particular has attracted the wrath of the IRS and the FBI, while others say that this is much to small a fish (heh) to garner the attention of either side. That being said, GamerGate has already dealt a serious blow to the reputation of the entire indie circlejerk. I doubt their racketeering will get anyone a prison sentence, but a considerable fine would certainly be the cherry atop of the pie.
I know I still do things even though I don't agree with policies/views. Most people in the entertainment industry have atrocious views (IMO) but I can't stop seeing movies/listening to music. I tried for a while but it was an epic fail. It's just very hard to do. Plus, sexism isn't bad in MOBAs anyway.
The question is why is anyone talking about this unattractive walrus in the first place? It's like a fucking afternoon soap opera for gamers. Who the FUCK cares?
There are some misogyny/racism/etc out there and that is a problem. Another problem is that too many people use some idiot's tweet to make themselves invulnerable to criticism. This is especially true of American politics where most criticism of Obama or Hillary is deemed racist/sexist. That's why these terms don't carry as much weight anymore. Calling someone a racist/misogynist/etc is just shorthand for "I don't like what you are saying, shut up." This seems to be a case where egregious behavior is trying to hide behind the tweets/obnoxious behavior of others. Unfortunately, too often our society lets these people get away with it.
