Why not both? Keyboard + Mouse for Devs/Tacs and Controller for Assaults
  2. If you want to play that way you can :)
    Kaelin and GreenMace like this.

Yeah, that's the idea. I'm planning on doing crazy/badass stuffs like switching between keyboard+mouse and controller for shooting/melee.
  4. I think everyone should use gamepads. Except me. But you guys...definitely use gamepads. :p

Okay but seriously, here's why gamepads aren't good for FPS games. They're not pixel perfect. Gamepads have these deadzones. Say you want to line up a shot right between someone's eyes. You move your sights to the left, uh oh...it went too left, you move them to the right, uh oh, too right and you'll never be able to line up that shot exactly how you want it...the point is, you will never get the same level of precision from a mouse and keyboard, especially a mouse with adjustable DPI that you will from a gamepad.

That's the same reason that cross-platform, console/pc attempts have tried and utterly failed or have been tested and then completely scrapped. Keyboard/Mouse users slaughter gamepad users.
  5. I grew up playing on consoles, and only in the last few years switched over to 100% PC gaming. Now, it's been a couple years since that transition but I still struggle to use a keyboard and mouse for anything but the most basic games. I'm sure that k+m has more potential for accuracy and precision, but I'm working against a lifetime of of muscle memory whenever I try to use a keyboard and mouse. I find them clunky and prone to what I've dubbed "wandering hand syndrome" where I can't for the life of me keep my hands over the keys I need to be pressing-- particularly when I need to reach for a button and then come back to others.

I spend more time looking at where my hands are supposed to be than looking at the screen, or I just press all the wrong buttons and either trigger the wrong responses or none at all (because I'm pressing keys that don't actually do anything).

With a gamepad, I know where everything is, and there's a significantly smaller number of buttons to have to keep track of. Even better, they're all local, so I don't have to worry about "wandering hand syndrome." EVERYTHING is in easy reach. I'll never claim to be a great player, but my performance drastically improves when I can use a gamepad, because that's what I grew up using-- I don't have to start at square 1 and try to retrain my hands. Even unfamiliar controllers are a step up for me compared to k+m. Maybe gampads aren't your thing; more power to you! I, for one, will be perfectly fine with some of the "failings" of gamepads, because I still do magnitudes better when I use one.
  6. I used to hunt and peck on a keyboard too when I was a kid, until I started to get really serious about programming and got tired of spending extra hours typing up page after page of code so I decided I should actually take typing class seriously.

Home row, son! Whenever, I put my hands on a keyboard, my left hand can't help but immediately glue itself to WASD. Although, if you have issues, there are keyboards that have raised indents on WASD and other "home row" keys to help you navigate by touch.
  7. Oh, I'm very familiar with typing courses and all the "home row" nonsense. To sit and type, that's just fine. I had plenty of computer classes when I was in school where they hammered that home. Spent an entire school year on the damn typing program when every other kid in my class finished it for months and got to play Oregon Trail. [resentment intensifies]

To sit and type is one thing. To be able to instinctively locate and press any of the keys by twitch-reflex at a fraction of a second's notice in a wargame? Mutha-luvva please! I find it inefficient and unnecessarily stressful, so I stick to gamepadding when possible. I appreciate you trying to be helpful, but I'm quite happy with a gamepad for games. As you do your things to your preferences, so shall I do my things to my own preferences.

I used to play with my keyboard, but i recently bought a Razer Sabretouth, and i've fallen in love with it :).
Its awesomenes is unbelieveble if you havn't testet it, and it actually IS a well tool to replace a keyboard.

But don't think im a gamepad Fanboy. It depends on the game, for a huge part.
Games like Warframe, where you switch fast beetween melee and shooting, are perfecrly fine with a gamepad.
Games like Battlefield arent made for controllers in my opinion, and i couldnt play it with it (except for tanks).

I havn't played Space Marine with it yet, because i can't get it to work... Space Marine seems to work with Xbox or emulators only...

Because I'm a PC gamer, and I'm on my PC when I play this.
