I'm far from being a tech specialist or anything, but Unreal Engine was the one used for Lineage II, and we had battles ("Clan Wars") with way more than 64 players on the same battlefield at the same time ... I dont know if that's what you meant though, like I said I'm not a tech wizard
My teef is on the Unity Engine. Not entirely sure how that will work though as the games I've seen developed with it so far has all been indie, and no MMO. But I have faith in the team and hopefully it will work fine. Anyone know where to find a big article that compare the different engines (pros/cons)?
Time we get the first screenshots from planets. I dont know much about game engines so i wont say "it's bad/not fitting/not able to handle". I think, the main problem is, we didn't see any AA title with that. But the indi games with the unity engine have their moments and especially rain looks fantastic for an indi game.
Calm down all. Lets just wait gameplay video that going to be. Only then we can somehow "assess" quality of engine.
unity is more a low config engine used for little games (from my point of view based on personal experience) so I'm not sure it could handle a massive battlefield with thousands of players destroying the environement
That uses Unreal Engine 2.5 which has a limit of 128 players. Unreal Engine 3 has a limit of 64 player limit.
