Game Design Update - August 2, 2016

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by BrentEllison, Aug 2, 2016.

  1. Still having issues with server connection losses. I have only completed 1 out of 7 matches tonight because of the issue. However, noticed a couple of more things.

+1 on the "skating" at distance

Downed opponents do not transition from red arrow > red X > gray X on the mini-map/radar. YMMV

Spawn map will allow you to select a non-squad Rhino, but you can't spawn into it. Just something weird.

Graphics took a hit. Became very grainy on the 2 setting from last patch. Moving to max clears it up.

May not sound like it, but I'm actually loving the patch so far. Mobility is great, really like the bolter mods and wargear. Lol, just wish I could finish more than 1 in 7 matches without some weird server bug condemning me to run around a 40k wax museum until the match ends. :D

1)The worst thing is the melee auto-aim like I do an evade attack in some direction but my character just turn to any nearby enemy and hit him. It's really ups melee slackery at new lvl as well as increased survivability.
    2) Lash of Slaneesh - has little range and very ineffective. And yet, friendly fired by it have that debuff so it makes it very harmful power.
    3) Flickering Fire - Well it's good but you need hit at least on 70-80 warp dust to kill an enemy, and this is too much.
    4) Eldar's lightning - should be without warm-up or idk for what this power created.
    5) Eldar's protect power - should have a little more AoE.
    6) Suppression from autocannon is VERY HUGE, my mouse is crying when shells in fly.
    7) Black bolt - should be for 20-25 ppl. 15 very little for that big map.

@BrentEllison I know its really minor, but can switching between powers and/or weapon be fixed, at least its so for Eldar Warlock.

He's changing powers, not heavy weapons and yet you cannot run and it takes a while to swap them on demand (2 powers+pistol)

The targeting for spells also feel a bit clunky, like i need to have it in someones direction for 2-3 seconds before it starts casting the beam, instead of working instantly.

  4. -Fatal Crash when pressing Z, keymapped to Push To Talk. I can move around the game world, but the clock stops and all other players are running in place or just disappear.

-I'm not comprehending the non Shieldbro Ground Assault as a concept. Especially Chaos GA and Bestbro(Loyalist with no shield). Lose the Jump Pack, Lose the Shield, gain... nothing and you still somehow cannot equip the best armor and the +40 Toughness item and the +1 Stamina gear. How's that possible? If the GA can't afford to equip the best survival gear and a full loadout(gear in all slots) without a Jump Pack, without a Shield, what's the point of the gear and the Ground Assault as a concept? How do you lose a 400 point Jump Pack and a 200 Point shield, yet you cant afford Marks, Sigils, Medkit, Grenades, WArgear slot 2 items, the High Priced Iron Halo along with Power Weapons, Axes, Fists? If not the GA then who can afford such items?

-How can the Striking Scorpion not afford the most expensive loadout items available? They dont have a jump pack, or a shield, and cannot even afford to equip +1 Stamina Wargear or the +20 Toughness wargear and their armor. How is that possible to max out their points? They bring NOTHING special to the fight except for the occasional out of stealth attack.

-Why are we bothering with the 150 point +10 health and +10 armor items? That's what, 2 or 3 boltrounds worth of life? These items are totally worthless and "filler" type items to make us feel like we're getting something.

-Whats the point of Sigil's in general if Ground Assaults cannot afford to equip these items? If any class should be able to equip these high durability type items, it should be Ground Assaults. The GA(Ork, Eldar, Loyalist, Chaos) should all be able to be the most durable build of them all, along with being able to equip the best Wargear Items in both slots, the best armor, health kits, Power Fist, Axes and grenades. Again, where are all those loadout points going? They're not carrying plasma cannons, they're not using the shield or Jump Pack, where are all of those lost points disappearing to?

-Why ever choose the Chaos GA when you can roll a Sorc? The Chaos GA is a worthless build and broken concept since they lost their 300 toughness. If you want to cap, roll a Traitor and bring a Boltgun or Plasmagun. You're just as durable as a Traitor Assault and you have a kick ass long gun. If you want to melee roll a Sorc. If you really want to Melee throw on the same Wargear you put on your Traitor Assault and grab a jump pack. The Traitor GA and all GA's in general(no shield) are worthless and getting the short end of the stick on loadouts.

Aesthetic suggestion for d. bash animation: Mirror flip d. bash to the other foot

Not sure how easy it would be to just flip the animations over, but if so, might look a lot better.

Why? You hold your melee weapon in your right hand. If you flip the animation, your melee weapon will now be up front and in more of a guarding position.

  6. Just wanna say THANK YOU for this patch. Best patch we've had in a long time. From the visual updates (which are GORGEOUS) to raising back up the TTK. Couldn't be happier guys, seriously!

  7. -AOE heals should not mean AOE resurrection. All AOE heals also AOE rez? That's so overpowered it's game breaking. How can any faction without spammable AOE heals ever compete?

Why ever choose the single target heal? Imagine if in WoW or any other MMO ever made if all AOE heals were also an AOE rez? You'd never have any reason to ever equip any other heal or group spell. The single target heal should also rez. AOE heals should NOT AOE rez. Players should have to be physicallly picked up then healed. It's so incredibly overpowered to have AOE rezzing. AOE rez should come with a lengthy cooldown and should take some of the players doing the rezzing's health. The fact that these AOE resurrections are spammable... with no sort of cooldown mechanic. Wow guys, this is so OP, as a long time healer from many other games I just cant wrap my head around it.

-Chain Link heal also means Chain Link Rez? Basically the same for AOE rezzing. Imagine if all heals in WoW, Guild Wars, ect also AOE rezzed. Why ever equip the single target heal?

-New Harkuss feels like an entirely different match with attackers spawning so close. Before we felt like we were assaulting through a town into the Fort. Now we just spawn as attackers so close it's ridiculous. Harkuss was one of the only maps that didnt feel like a confined space because attackers had to attack from afar.

Defenders get screwed over not being able to use their AT weapons at max range because attackers spawn roughly 100 meters from the walls. Why guys? Seriously WHY? The former spawn location for attackers actually felt somewhat open world. Now attackers spawn in so close it feels like a typical, no brain, no pain dime a dozen meat grinder. I'm sure the instant gratification crowd will love it because in the 40K universe there are only shortcuts and instant gratification.

-Harkuss side stairs gone! Brilliant guys and great work! The new terrain makes it feel much more believable and it just looks awesome. I'd still like to see two destructible barricades(4 total) that need to be breached on both the underground(2 barricades) and the stairs(2 barricades) area in order for attackers to be able to get inside. These barricades would give attackers breaching objectives(more content!) and would give defenders extra objectives to defend(more content!).

-It's still to darned easy to abuse redeploy to fast travel across the map. This makes defending all to easy.

-Strong Attack is still doing nothing that I can see versus Bash. I spammed 5 or 6 strong attacks earlier versus a bash spammer. After the 6th strong attack versus his 6th bash he rolled away and ran off.

-Maggon map is extremely laggy and choppy. Makes melee very difficult because players are teleporting, you dont see melee strikes coming.
  8. Hold on there, killer. :D I can see you've got a lot of feedback (multiple posts now) and I won't say that it's BS because there's always an adjustment period after a new patch. Some or all of it may be right, but what say we give it a few days and see how things really shake out?

In other words, I'm saying that one night probably isn't enough to judge what does and doesn't need to be adjusted. I've noticed a couple of things myself and will have my eye on them in the days to come, but for now I'm concentrating on code bugs until I can build a better picture of what might be truly off.

  9. REally dont need to see how it will play out. Anyone that's ever "mained" a healer from an MMO knows that spammable AOE resurrections are overpowered in both PVE or PVP.

A resurrection with no cooldown, can be applied infinitely to any party member, effects multiple targets, no adverse effects on caster or targets no matter how many times they're rezzed, absolutely zero drawbacks, and the fact that this heal renders single target heals totally obsolete.

Just looking at the concept on paper anyone that's ever healed competitively in a PVP setting would of course absolutely love any such ability. Though anyone being honest and that has the best interest of the game in mind can surely see that type of spammable resurrection is totally overpowered.

I'm sorry, I haven't been on live in awhile (or a space marine), how long have dark angels had their red bolters/chainsword/plasma guns/bolt pistols? Cause they look stellar.
