I'm a little interested in this subject as well. It is a double edged sword to be honest when it comes to that in my opinion due to my experience with APB. The community degrades into a cesspool of people who aren't friendly and get high on their own ego.
There will be a friendlist for sure, like you said this is a must-have feature, but how it will interact with the console or Steam's specific one is still to be determined
Good to hear. If it is possible, atleast give us the ability to find where our friends are located via the friends list as in the general region on a continent or something in the manner.
Honestly, I'm usually disappointed with the social feature in games - especially those that require teamwork outside of just shooting things. I hope EC gets an integrated social network of sorts. For example, allowing a squad, strike force, and faction to create medals and ribbons (the achievement requirement, look, etc) and the ability for other players to view these. These would, of course, be limited, so that a squad to maybe do 1 per month, a strike for 3 per month, and a faction 5 - 10 per month. Some examples of requirements would be to take an enemy held position by the end of the week - anyone who fought in that sector for 1+ hours is awarded the medal. The strike force could create a battle ribbon (campaign would be a bit big and controlled by BE) that is awarded for accomplishing objectives that the council outlines. Lets say the Dark Angel faction is attempting to take the Agraxis Star Port (fictional name) and sets it as an objective to capture. The faction leaders then create a custom battle ribbon that says "Battle for Agraxis Star Port" with the date stamp. Now any Dark Angels that fight in the Agraxis Star Port sector for at least 1 hour automatically earn the ribbon. Other players in the Space Marine faction could then see that the player has earned this ribbon when they look at the profile. This can be done using a very simple in-game ribbon creator. It's basically just custom stripes, colors and an assortment of devices optional in the middle.
A small suggestion I have about that would be to have the ability to add a small description or note onto someone's name. So for example If I added you (Nicolas Brunoni) to my friends list I could add a note saying " Don't let him drive!" so when I mouse over your name I could see the note. I find this is helpful in MMO's for when you randomly group up with someone and later on want to remember why you had added them or how you met them in-game.
YES! It helps with those awkward situations where someone on your friend list obviously knows you but you can't remember who the heck they are. Some of us old folk have that problem!
I'm kinda hoping that there will be a two tab friend finder in the UI. One, has all of your current friends. The other allows you to find friends based on a certain criteria like following orders, commanding well, a good K/D ratio, weapon loadouts or other ways of aligning those who play similarly to you.
