Question is I suppose wether the exploitation is a greater detriment then the potential loss of weeks worth of RP accumulation would be I for one would be very reluctant about spending RP for a HQ unit/TDA/Vehicle if the potential for FF damage or TK'ing in a situation was high enough, regardless of wether spawning such a RP consumable in the situation would benefit my team greatly
You could deduct points from the killer to pay for the damages, not the full cost but 50% or so. If they don't have enough you could garnish a percent of the req they earn until the damage is payed for.
i imagine a team of terminator killing each other, for sure a single team killing have no conseguence so it's convenient to kill terminator. so the game will be full of peope mercy teamkilling hero and elite before the enemy can finish them so they save the cost
oh I could see the potential exploitation, though youd still have the problem of trying to "mercy-kill" your ally and his almost lost consumable unit before the enemy managed to finish him off themselves, without actually just ending up helping the enemy destroy the unit by reducing its HP and not getting the killing blow in, Like I said though, if FF damage and TK'ing is significant enough in EC I for one will NOT be spending RP on such consumable units.... whats the point if any unit you purchase has a high enough potential to either be damaged by your own team to the point of being highly vunerable to the enemy or even possibly destroyed outright by your own side, getting destroyed by the enemy is to be expected but having my own team make it easier for the enemy in such a direct and immediate way makes any such expenditure wasteful and pointless
think better: the game have a downed state! so a really hard to team killing someone! the same faction can't execute allies! yes the downed state player can still take damage. so yes someone can make a mistake and down some ally but can't considered unintentional to also kill the downed player in that case ( downing and then killing) must be punished ( and in case of hero and elite and vehicles can be a bigger punishment) downed state can have a resistance to aoe allied effect ( because when you are immoble is hard to avoid grenade) in case is still no sufficient downed can have damage reduction to all damage. if still not work the downing animation can have a small immunity frame. in case is not sufficent the entire downed state can have ff off but i don't like that idea.( maybe only for hero and elite?) whit that ideas unintentional tk is almost impossible, so when happen can be punished.
Silly you . You haven't been listening to the devs closely enough. We're not talking 'real' range here. In reality 'long range' is anything from 200 meters up to 1km or more. EC is an action game, the devs often emphasized their inspiration with THQ SM combat system and their reluctnace towards simulator types of games. Bolter is said to have 40\50 meters of range in EC, this is a medium range weapon, not a short one. When you add the spread while shooting auto, long TTK (4 seconds) and the fact that the scarcity of ammo is confirmed (you'll have to manage it very economically) then you'll get a situation where in order to actually HIT anybody and do ANY dmg you'll have to be about 20 meters away from the enemy or closer to ensure success. (pretty much like in paintball) Heavy bolter is said to be deadly at CLOSE RANGE and ok at medium, the long one? - it wasn't even mentioned but it doesn't take a scientist to figure out that the maximum range of that weapon may not exceed 100meters, I even doubt that. The only weapons we could consider long range for SM\CSM will probably be lascannon and maybe stalker bolter but so far we know nothing about them. On one hand such a relatively shortened range of all guns is reasonable cos otherwise if we could pick the enemies from a real distance (like in RO or Arma) the melee classes wouldn't be able to do s***t in this game - I am fully aware of this. But the downside of such a situation is the fact that basically all or most of any combat be it melee or shooting will be narrowed to a small area where it will be possible to be effective, i wouldn't like to use a word -cluster f***k but that's what I have in my mind. It may be a cool experience though as it will probably resemble the battles from WH40k arts where we see valliant SM making their way through the hordes of orks shooting them with bolters at point blank...and missing. I generally like that idea except for one little detail: FF. FF in such a configuration I have just described will be a pain in the ass for all, the assault classes and shooters as well. Some people seem not able to understand that EC IS a different game, no other game had melee developed to this level at such a scale of combat (give me one freaking example, ONE)- this very element is a game changer whether you like it, understand it or not -YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IT FOR SURE. Thus with penalties or without ff will be a serious complication giving birth to other complications connected to it. I will be against it as long as it doesn't have a substantial dmg reduction the devs spoke of or it isn't done a la Gary's idea (not lethal ff, the last 20% of health always immune to ff).
If you need to tweak so much the FF in down state, then this tweak is a bad idea. I think that being killed by the ennemy or your allies is the same death. So you lose your RP because you have been killed it is realist and when you TK someone your side lose ressouce, period. Now the idea to make the TK pay is interesting. First because even involuntary TK are still unforgivable mistake in real world (unless when they are called for like asking artillery support on your position). I think that making the TK pay a ressource compensation to the TKed player is very fair, with 2 tweak : the TK'ed can forgive and forfeit the compensation (example if he ask for artillery on his position) and that the compensation is mitigated by the likelyhood of a voluntary TK (ie the more damage you do to your side versus the opposite side will make you pay more compensation). I keep of course further tweak for the orks/Chaos and for officers enforcing discipline (Commissar anyone).
