Free-to-play Players As A Commodity In Wh40k: Eternal Crusade

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by mbbouchard, Oct 22, 2013.

  1. Honestly, I think the model that Planetside 2 runs would be the best for this game. You have the choice to pay money to get other weapons (which are almost always sidegrades of the default) or you can use the ingame currency, basically resulting in it just being pay-to-access-content-faster (P2ACF?)

The article gets a lot wrong in its summation of EC's f2p model, so I'm not surprised it was able to paint things in a negative lights. No matter.

Once EC includes multiple F2P groups, people will stop complaining about how the Boyz will be imbalanced.

Just the fact that it's not subscription-based made me happy.

Yeah, and people don't have a problem in buying a good game.

If it's a subscription then many people just give up since there are many good online games out there that don't need it.

And if it's f2p then many people will be skeptical.

But if it's a solid good game then people won't have a problem in paying 50 bucks, at least that's how I think, Guild Wars 2 works that way and is doing well I believe.

I think that it is a good plan and will work well at getting people in the game. Mechwarrior online is fully free to play and, at first, I did not plan to but anything. Then I found that spending money to get mech paint and heroic mechs made it more enjoyable. I now have many colors to paint my mechs with and I like to change them around alot. Once the free to play orks see the other races in action, they would think about which race they would want to play as if they buy the game if they enjoy it. Or if they are good with the orks and like them, they will buy the game to expand their ork.

As we know so little about the game mechanics at this point it is very unclear what we will see in the final product. Though I personally have high hopes that even the orks will balance trough out rank against space marines. Like in the lore the bigger the orks are the harder they are to kill even for a space marine.

    I agree.

I also think adding Chaos heretics and IG as alternative F2P factions, and the smaller 'Nids, will make the Ork Boyz feel like they can contribute without feeling significantly underpowered.

Although I'd love to be able to play heretics or the IG, I think it makes way more sense to have just have F2P Orks. If they can make themselves into living rockets, or be Ork Kommando's, then I'd even buy the game and play as them on occasion.

They can. Ork Boyz are the F2P class of the Ork faction. The Kommandos and Storm Boyz are both going to be B2P
