After player Space Marine, Eldar and Ork For a few days now I have noticed one weapon stands out to me constantly and that is the Abaddon's Grace from the Chaos faction. I decided to check it out and see what it is so I created a Chaos character and jumped into the equipment tab. The Abaddons Grace is a duplicate of the Master Crafted Auto Cannon but it has a fancy skin and then for no reason what so ever it sets targets on fire. This makes this RTC weapon a complete upgrade to the master crafted version but it is locked behind an RTC paywall. Players can pay for a direct power upgrade to the MC autocannon. Until this point I have been praising the model and the lack of pay to win but I feel like this is the start of a slippery slope. How long until the next weapon is put in that has an extra trait to just increase its power. Using the MC AC I can hit a target a few times but they make it to cover and out of Line of sight. If I pay to use the Abaddons Grace I can land the same amount of shots but when they get to cover they get killed by the fire stack. This is not even a discrete advantage it is a direct power increase for players who pay. It is disheartening to say that this is dangerous item and the fact that more could make it in. Will also be changing my steam review to indicate that even though there is currently only this weapon that I have noticed Pay to Win does unfortunately exist. Whats next? Cosmetic armor that grants actuall armor/toughness?
EXACTLY. They didn't want to do PAY-TO-WIN and yet they do this? The in-game note even freaking says "RTC weapons have no differences other than cosmetics." No difference my shiny metal bum...
That is a fair point eventually the free player can get it if they are able to get the RTC from Campaigns, Rumor has it you cant get the RTC. However the fact remains new players coming in can get a direct advantage by purchasing the item. it is not a sidegrade or does not change your role it simply is superior to the free versions of the weapon.
If that is a feature incoming then thats a great way to counter the issue completely. Though they need downsides and the AG will need to have the same downside applied to it.
Usually the downside is increased costs. But this is an old topic, if you use the search function you will find tons of threads in here. As I said, it's overdue.
