I really hope I'm posting this in the correct thread, but I am very worried about :
    • Vehicles – Unique Founders-only vehicles
    • Consumables – Extra ammunition, grenades, and other convenience items
    • Accessories – Unique equipment pieces
I know it's very vague right now, but I'm worried that these could provide an upper hand in combat. I don't want to win on the battlefield because I threw the devs some extra money during development. I love the cosmetic, identity, etc, because they'll be something cool, but won't give me an upper hand in battle. Even if the bonuses are minute, I feel it is the incorrect approach. I don't post much (at all) but I felt it very important to speak up on this issue. Even if these bonuses end up being an effective .1% chance to have me win, I don't want it.

I really dont want plaer driven titans anywhere near this game, they hold vast amounts of pire power, enough to level entire hive cities, just thinkin of the balancing issues makes me cower like a heretic. Anyway lets leave this type of discussion for the actaul discussion thread about stretch goals, lets keep on topic and supply feedback to David on how you feel about the actual stretch goal mechanic, not whats in them :)

EVE is, to be fair, an acquired taste in gaming. I would not fashion any MMO after it.

I disliked EVE intensely and as much as I really wanted to like it, it was, and still is the most frustrating and infuriatingly obtuse experience of my 30+ years of gaming.

There are many games that vie for special recognition in my past for how they failed, disappointed, or otherwise just didn't do it for me - Though each game has offered a lesson in it's way...

Age of Conan may be the most relevant in this discussion because I got the distinct feeling that they really did just run out of money/resources and thus just dropped massive portions of the game plan. I can't say for sure, of course, but the game felt incomplete - and I don't mean unpolished. Indeed, the first 20 levels might, to this day, still be the best 20 levels of any MMO experience I have ever had. Immersive, well voiced, well conceived, engaging and entertaining and a perfect introduction to a beautiful looking game. The directionless, ill-conceived, dull grind with wildly inconsistent difficulty which followed left you wondering what happened to the game you had just been playing for 8 hours and why you were being punished for reaching level 20.

This, of course, is never a goal of a company, and Funcom may simply never planned for the 20 level experience to be the final experience you had for the remainder of the game, but I am sure that Eternal Crusade even with stretch goal confirmation of features (and presumably features which drop out) would never create such a schism between gaming experiences.

Final Fantasy XIV v1.0 will, in all likelihood, be the poster child of failed MMOs. There was no funding issues with that game - they had plenty of money and time to get it right. So that game is a cautionary tale of making sure you have the right people in the right positions and that you should listen to your users - Especially in a beta test where we were telling them, by the hundreds, DON'T launch this game, it doesn't work! I also got the feeling from those guys that there was an ideas guy and he wasn't going to change his opinions for anything.

So while I get that for you, with EVE, mass PvP was somewhat successful, I think you can take lessons from what they may have done well, but in a world of MMO players who wouldn't touch EVE even if it were given to them, you have to look at other PvP experiences out there and also learn from their mistakes and successes - 500 vs 500 massive battle PvP is fraught with some level of risk because the player experience is king and if it slips just a little, and the experience becomes frustrating, you will lose massive chunks of your player base. Eternal Crusade may not be the first, but I think they are going to have to be the best in order to make it work and that's a scary place to be.

Ask yourself one question - actually, I am going to post a new thread on this because I think it's a very interesting possible progression of the MMO, especially one that is heavily focused on PvP.

Same here. Consider my initial "No," a yes. Because a better fleshed out game, with some pretty bells and whistles can't go wrong.

They should probably label the goals based on how important they feel it is to the core game. Dynamic Weather sounds neat and all, but it's probably something that can be saved for after launch. It's a neat goal for sure...but it would rank as a lower priority then others I'd say.

This was another of my points on stretch goals though, see I'm a big proponent of dynamic weather that actually effects combat. The way I value it, the way you value it and the way the devs value it could all be completely different which makes it hard to order the stretch goals by priority.
  7. I definitely want this game to happen, So I think at least, that everyone who really wants it will buy the packs to help with the money issue.

This i was going to ask something very similar thank you ralt, but im gonna post something a bit different.

hes got a point yes the founders should get something that the normal players cant get access to, that way they can feel their investment wasent in vain, because atleast me i would not be very happy if some months later the rest of the players get the same stuff i had invest in, then why should i had wasted that money in the first place if the devs were going to release everything later on.

And consumables again i think you people have allready disscus this in the past, i am against this, because even if it is extra ammo, grenades, whatever adds an extra punch in my fire power i would consider it not fair for the rest of the players maybe because that extra shot/grenade i made a kill in a situation where i should had died but i didnt, i really hope the devs dont go that way because they have said their aim is at the players skill.

So it should be, player skill, every one should be at the same power level, the only difference time and experience.

As for the vehicles and accsessories i am yet to know anything if its skins like lets say instead of getting a modern day predator i get a pre heresy era one im okay with that just a skin that looks cool, hope its only that not any form of different weapon plataforms.

The accesories mmm again i have no idea if its like a small shield at the side of my shoulder pad or maybe a thing that adds my wargear something not relevant, i am unsure because i dont know how the term accessorie will apply to my character, but if it is something like dawn of war 2 exclusive for founders i would say no if it gives a buff or something that i can abuse because the other dude cant get it.

But again another example if its something like a boss pole with more skulls, bitz, etc, and it looks totally diferent than the standart one and adds the same benefict i am okay with that haha, just some thoughts.

  9. I think we're going in two different directions here.

I was purely talking about establishing communication and organization in large groups, for testing or actual competitive gameplay purposes. No idea how we got on to the issue of failed MMO Development though I agree with everything you said. I actually enjoyed Age of Conan (Well the PvP Ganking I did in the starter zones) but it did feel like halfway through the game just completely changed character and FFXIV was a massive disappointment.

  10. Are they actual relics or just weapon skins?
