Fair point, and the effects are not mutually exclusive, and likely interact.
  2. "If not, I would say that is something to look at since our notions (and defensive argument) that melee owns the short game might not be true."

Not if their actual kill count/ratio compared to HB is greater. Then the only conclusion is that is simply is more common for HBs to kill at closer range. We have insufficient data for this conclusion.

"I think the onus needs to be on the HB player to pick their spots smartly"

Aye, this be why I mentioned possibly a throw down rally point. Really we just need better squad leaders.

"Besides, if there is a boost for protecting the HWs, why not a boost for sticking together with any teammate?"

    There is. :)

    Agree with the rest.

I think a squad cohesion XP bonus has been suggested before, to try and mimic tabletop, but I also think it was pointed out that the Squad Leader Toughness bonus should already do that.

Just wanted to throw this out there. I just finished playing quite a few games as Orks tonight. In that time we played Harkus twice. Both times were against LSM, and the we won as the attackers both times. It seems that now that the shine on the HB has worn off a bit, and the learning curve has been learned, people are doing a better job of making a fight out of Harkus. I joined the first match late and was surprised to see the Orks had already taken A. The second match I was in for the entire time and it was nice to see the Lootas out there taking out the Quads and people on the wall.

One thing I did notice was that braced HB v braced PDG the HB will out shoot you even if you started firing first. That has a lot to do with the spread of the PDG being applied so quickly that you really do have to do controlled bursts to compete. I tested it on multiple maps from different angles (ground to balcony, slightly lower position, and same level) and every time I either had to dive for cover or died before I could move. I really don't have to much of a problem with that at all. Orks are meant to be inaccurate and therefor should have their spread happen quicker. The suppression I put on the HB meant that I survived under their fire longer and kept them distracted so that my teammates could make critical plays. I would like to see a little more spread on the HB, as has been discussed on this thread previously, but not to much more. I also think that suppression may need to have a bigger impact across the board.

All in all a fun night of stompin.

Oh and I want to pose the question to any Devs that may read this. Why is the barricade at the top of the stairs main front entrance to B not braceable from the Attackers side? It is a far more logical place to brace then the 2 boxes at either small door main entrance. One of which fires directly onto a B spawn point. I racked up 8 or 9 kills at that point simply by having people spawn in front of me as I was either firing at the balcony or the back of the room. I kind of felt bad for them since 3 were Shield Bros and at least 2 were JPAs and they died before they finished their spawn animation. Not going to tell the general populous which on though. That's my secret kill spot. Providing I can ever get back to it again.

  5. Hmm... Both of you don't seem to realize there IS ALREADY a squad cohesion XP bonus. Its active now and has been for like 5 months.

Squad Leaders, when they hold down the Spot key, they target mark a location. Anywhere, any square inch of soil, wall or rock.

Any kills or point captures for Squad members near this marked point get a bonus to XP gain.

That's not squad cohesion, that's an obedience bonus. I've been aware of that the whole time. The squad cohesion XP bonus that was mentioned was more like the Leader's Toughness bonus. I'm not suggesting it, I wasn pointing out that it's been covered.

  7. Ah, like an Aura.

I always saw the "obedience bonus" as a squad coherency bonus. Especially since, as a Squad Leader, you can tag yourself with it and basically give yourself the very same aura you are talking about.

I mean, if you place that on a control point, the guys that attack it are going to get the bonus, and they'll more than likely be working together, so cohesion is enforced through tertiary means. :)

Yeah, like an aura. Technically the Squad Leader can place their waypoint on a Point and then wander off and break cohesion. But like I said, been discussed, and dismissed, as far as I recall. I think there are sufficient incentives to group up on a Heavy Weapon, but perhaps not enough education.

Yeah, I knew there was the squad leader bonus as well, which is why I was arguing against ANOTHER, and quite possibly competing, bonus for the HW. The current squad lead bonus is class agnostic, as I think it should be. Adding a bonus towards staying near the HW would, in my mind, create a conflict of interest in the squad. Do I stick near the Tac squad lead at the front, or the HW in the back? I'd say it is better to make the HW the squad lead and sign the whole squad up for rear guard action as opposed to adding more special rules.

Thanks for the update on game play Byebye. I'm relieved to see that the tactics people have been discussing actually work. Otherwise the HB community would've have looked like real clowns!

So, when they removed some of our brace points, and made sandbags unbraceable, apparently they added stealth brace points to make up for it...

Yes, submitted as a bug, but posted here for your amusement.
