I agree with this I held my own pretty well again jump assault in 1v1 melee using that defensive bash I also want peoples opinions if making snap shots into a melee is a viable strategy, by this I mean when a bunch of your team and a bunch of the enemy is in a mosh pit stabbing and bashing each other over the head and you see an opening to make a snap shot at the enemy (be it one bullet or a short burst) and it doesn't even need to hit so long as it 'suppresses' them making their screen blur and thus lowering their combat effectiveness. Would any of you say this is a viable strategy with the pro's vs. cons? The cons being you could accidently suppress your own team or worse, harm or kill them among other battlefield issues.
If you are playing as a loyalist and it is MoN's and ground assaults going at it by all means, suppressing the MoN's ability to snapshot with their pistols can certainly help, if playing chaos then the opposite. If it's air assaults duking it out then i'd probably steer clear, they are going to be jumping and dashing all over the place and you will probably end up hitting your own friendly. Also me personally when having an air assault duel, if i see out of the corner of my eye an enemy havoc shooting/suppressing me i am gonna abandon the duel, slam on his head and kill him for the heals/damage resistance buff before going back and finishing off the raptor with a huge advantage.
That can be countered though, but you gotta be lucky and quick, I'd probably shoot and move, if you're vision is blurred you won't see very well, also if you did go for me, I'd get a defensive bash going, even if you block it, it may slow you down enough for my raptor or assault buddy to come to the rescue on your back-side but of course this is all subject to be different scenarios every time depending on the environment, what's happening around the fight, how good each player is and these aspects of combat can take milliseconds to be decided. So while I'll agree it is dangerous, it can also be countered.
That's okay, I'll say it. When people duck and run from Storm Bolter or even regular Bolter fire, but run INTO my Heavy Bolter fire just to close and beat me to death, I'd argue that the HB does kill too slow. When I can engage someone at sufficient range it works like a charm. But the number of those killing lanes are few and far between, and rarely see any significant number of enemy troops. Maybe I'm just frustrated with the current patch giving Melee all the goodies, but I really feel like HB isn't putting enough damage down range to earn its keep.
Agreed, last time I was on (Saturday night I think) I fired my HB in short bursts until it overheated at a single guy and he still didn't go down. Had this happen pretty often when using HB in that session. Defo needs some work to make it feel like it's worth taking.
Remove the suppression part(for both friend and foe) and absolutely, yes, snap-shots or just all-around controlled fire into a melee can assist your allies. I'm pretty good at getting Downs/Assists against players fighting in melee without also Downing my ally. It isn't. It's pure offensive DPS power(AKA what it is supposed to have so it can naturally suppress) was reduced so the weapon could cause screen blur/shake and decrease weapon accuracy(artificial suppression).
I forgot to add my positives at the end. First up, the game seems to be running smoother, and with that the HB is much easier to handle. Secondly, I was really excited to be able to take the ammo pack. Lets me stay on point for much longer, and I don't have to feel silly breaking off and going back to a crate. Lastly, I'm really happy with how we stack up in a 1vs1 against melee - most of the time I lose because I'm straight up ninja'd, or can't get a bash or clang off in time. But with a little more warning, and a bit of smart positioning, and a bit of luck, I can win the engagement often enough to feel empowered. I do this about half the time. The other half I stand there doing nothing because I can't get a clear enough shot. I will admit to a couple of times deliberately killing all three and then reviving my teammate. I really feel like we're not in a good place here, and there are no good options for us. A short burst can help, if you can keep the bullets clear, so Jetpacks jumping aren't a good target. I don't feel that suppression affects melee a great deal though, so I'm neither worried about suppressing my teammate, nor expecting it to reduce the effectiveness of the enemy. I haven't played assault, but if you just keeping swinging at the large marine shaped blob, you still hit right?
One small thing I've noticed that's worth mentioning: with the reduced stagger time on the defensive bash, there is no longer enough time to spin up an unbraced HB before they are able to attack again. You're better off sticking to melee. I've yet to try a quick brace and fire, but I think the time to start shooting will be about the same. At least the bash is easier to pull off now.
Yep if you have to melee to save yourself you are basically stuck in melee. Of course that only applies to the Heavy Weapons anyone else has ways to get out of it. Also I've noticed that if you just run in a circle melee classes have a hard time hitting you. So if you have friends around just move in a circle around your attacker and hope one of your melee friends help out.
