[QUOTE="CabalTrainee, [/QUOTE] I think you missed the point that people are putting this game on a pedestal level equal and higher than battlefield hence if you scale it down it has relatively balanced and evened out statistics. Think if Battlefield was a Country it would be America while Eternal Crusade would be Australia. When it comes to comparing them you have to equate the difference in population, lifestyle, etc. I also mentioned the total number of players today for Eternal Crusade after the original stats but it was just a quick 2 minute post based on some of the shit I've been seeing posted especially the nonsense on the steam forums. The base point though was that if you break it down at a glance of course battlefield towers over this but it's a niche game which people seem to be forgetting and based on its number of players versus owners versus total online it isn't so bad and doomsday as people continually keep repeating specially cause queues are virtually instant anyway unless you're LSM. (I'm on mobile so this reply is rushed otherwise it would be structured different lol but the gist is the same regardless)
I would like to take this as true, but, a ten year plan will require them to get much more money out of the existing player base. They cannot maintain this game without a subscription, or a vastly improved in game store, which frankly is currently garbage, not to mention, broken (why would people buy things that a subsequent patch breaks?), they will not keep it going with no money coming through the door. They are clearly hoping the console launch will bring in more money, but, in truth, how much more is going to be debatable. Given that we accept that the game is for a minor niche of players, 40k fans, I do not see thousands of them chomping at the bit for the console release, I honestly feel that the majority of people who want this game, already have it.
BF1 is currently in early enlister mode, therefore only those who paid extra or something have this, I think that tonight at 12am it is released for everyone. So we're working with a fraction of the population of BF1 so who knows tomorrow we might have a crash of the servers or some shit when the flood gates open. Perhaps I will find team mates who understand what PTFO means...
i am no hater, but in today´s market a game will not survive long with only 1k current player and 1k is the optimum at the moment. Look at Battleborn it is the same, at release they had 20k player now 400-700 none cares about it anymore, same will happen to this game. I dont want it, but after the last patches and how they make balance changes or new conent it last too long to get this game in a good state for more players. As hard as it sounds, the only way will be F2P imo.
I'd say 'skyrocket' is a bit much m8. It didn't exactly skyrocket with the latest patch. Although the 'big October Patch' with the MAIN GIMMICK of this game (Campaigns) is coming. I hope for a healthy boost in players, but it really depends on how good/bad the system is.
It would really depend on a lot of cost/benefit factors. Servers may not be cheap, but they aren't particularly expensive either. So matienence isn't necessarily a problem. Again, relying on console sales to bugeon up the project I think isn't really the intent either. They obviously want the game to do better than it did at launch - They didn't come here with the intention to fail. But I don't think they're banking on it pulling them into the realm of "success" either. They're looking to "survive" by funding development as far out as it can possibly go because programmers animators, and other IT admin make 90k+ a year. BE is paying somewhere between 500k to 1million dollars (maybe even more counting the execs) a year in just salaries for the team of 90 of very skilled professionals. It's not the matienence of the servers that's going to kill the project, its when the dev team gives up and stops patching/improving the game. But they have an ace up their sleeve. The in game microtransaction store puts them in a prime position to reduce the price of the game (milking every peny out of potential buyers) furthering the development account until the game goes F2P. And think of EC as F2P. The game may not be worth $50 dollars to most, but this may actually be one of the best F2P games ever made, and it's STILL improving. I played LoL for almost 6 years and loved it - it had quite a few problems to begin with, including long wait times for matches - totally broken characters (Evelyn... +6 Sunfire capes). The problem is that once they start cutting prices, they can't go back.
no chance in hell this game is going to survive for 10 years without making us the consumer part with our cash, the cosmetics? lol nope and even if it was a oooo ahhh place it would still need to be high priced - oh wait - it isnt ohh and ahh but it is high priced so hardly anyone spends cash therefore all the game has is its initial sales funds for the rest of its '10 year' life ... not a fucking chance it needs add ons / better cosmetics and some serious overhaul to make it much more appealing to a market that is pretty much dominated by other titles, yes its 40k woot ... people dont give a crap about the IP if the game sucks ass, believe it or not but they even make some bad board games sometimes and then have to release faqs / erratas to fix it, which is a dam sight easier than programming.
yeah and if it even works right and gives out rewards that are again worth it .. otherwise it will be another meh whatever patch again ...
