Fire Dragons Role In Game

Discussion in 'Eldar' started by Guirlos, Aug 24, 2014.

  1. It was already said, that the Heavybolter damage against vehicles is just a placeholder. When they had no Lasguns in the Alpha, they needed something to damage vehicles. Maybe you saw an old stream or they didn't yet change it, because its still the only soft av.

I would love to play as a Fire Dragon, using the jetbike with maybe another Fire Dragon or maybe a Dire Avenger or Scorpion to take infantry from my back while I destroy some Rhinos and Predators. I hope the range of tanks will allow this kind of tactics.

Pretty much this :). I see the Fire dragons as part of our shock troops. They can break down the heaviest defence pretty quick and when backed up by HB's the hole they make should get big pretty quick. If we had Warp Spiders as well to ping about and harass anyone setting up fallback points the swordwind would be pretty much free to roam. As it stands the DA's are going to have to try and suppress any fall back manoeuvres the oppositions make, maybe with help of any Scorpions that might have snuck into place, but they won't be as effective as WS's because they can't negate cover as effectively.

This is of course providing bE get the Aspects right (so far, so good) and don't turn them into the generic space elves that most of the mehrine population seem to think they are. As with any Aspect Warrior that’s played well, all you'll hear is the frustrated screams of mehrine players "OMFG,OP!FFS,OP!!!".

The only aspect I'm concerned about is the Swooping Hawks. I'm still struggling to see them as a threat to the other factions and not an elaborate clay pigeon. When they said "Swooping Hawks will definitely swoop!" I hope they see swooping as fast and low level.
I think Brent mentioned in the last livestream (#7) that they weren't happy with the assault class. There wasn't enough risk involved when jumping and they should be vulnerable to being knocked out of the air. Anyone who's played Space marine against a team of assault troops with thunder hammers know that low risk high reward options pretty much break the game. So I completely agree with him. What this means for the (relatively) lightly armoured SH's that are also a bit more "floaty" than the other jump classes is a bit of a worry.

Me too, since i foresee lots of killing while those weapons chargue up.
  5. it would be nice if the eldar fusion weapons dont charge up, or fast charge at anyrate. The fire dragon fusion gun is a little less powerful than the basic melta gun. So it could be a little less than a melta but fire faster maybe?
  6. Is there any plans yet to incorporate the "Melta" special rule into Melta type weapons? Something similar to double damage at a much shorter range than max or double penetration if there is an armor stat.

I think that is explained in a thread in the second page of this discussion, ComplacenBadger.

Regarding the strength of the eldar melta versus the imperial melta, I would think eldars should have the advantage. They should do more damage, or have more range, or recharge quickly. Since the eldar are an advance race, and probably the underdog in this game.

  8. but they dont. Str6ap2 Vs str8ap1 at least the codex before last. I have the new codex some where but not sure where.. So no the Eldar basic melta weapon is weaker, but you get 5 of them in a basic unit.. Now the exarch fire pike is more advanced, has 18"range (longer) and str 8ap1. (stronger)

  10. I checked again, still didn't see anything about difference in damage based on ranges.
