YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!! WE WANTS IT, WE NEEDS IT!!!!! Seriously though BeHaviour, drop what you're doing and hire Plastic Wax. Or at least have a chat to one of their guys, because every visual representation they do of 40k is absolutely spot on. Plz BE, make models look like this!
Good luck trying to animate that model, any movement will make the armour clip, he can't even raise the arm to strike with the sword witouth the shoulderpad going inside the helmet... This topics remind me to TWD tv show and the decision to not cut a character's hand like it happens on the comic, it's really easy to hide things that would be hard or not possible to do with 1 hand on a comic, on the TV you can't do that and it will be to much trouble or even impossible to do it, the same thing happens with artwork or non animate models, they might look really cool but I'm pretty sure that none of those models can have the movement needed to play a 3rd person shooter without huge changes, I just can't see that Regicide model animated without huge changes to the shoulderpads, arms, helmet and chestplate, waist and legs might be fine.
Technically, the shoulderpads would never work with most models or if they were used IRL. But the lore addresses this, with the shoulderpads acting like an extra muscle, moving to avoid the chestpiece and backpack, or like what Mr vaults says. It can be animated, but it would definitely be hard with regicide models.
Rotating the arm backwards and forwards works fine, raising the arm to the side would clip though, yes. So the shoulder pads are really the only major thing they'd need to muck around with, and it's just a matter of repositioning it. Other than that, there are only two things that might not work with EC's animations; possibly the waist when crouching, and the backpack ornament when combat rolling... But since EC already has sergeants with their own backpack command-ornaments rolling around (and an apothecary with backpack lights/sensors) the latter doesn't seem to be something to worry massively about. And what are we going to have if actual backpack banners are implemented? Disable rolling and use the devastator a "hop" instead? Might have to.
What is it with the youth of today and Hipsters? They've even got the Captain above wearing them. It's lovely armour, but it needs to be worn properly. As for the Pauldrons, most people assume that like classic armour they're attached to the Breastplate at the top of the shoulder. But with SM power armour it attaches to a lower layer of armour which covers the shoulder itself, and if both of these can move even slightly the pauldron will not be blocked by the breastplate.
Love the changes in the Eldar models, now, about the chaos... like the alterations on the Raptor helmet, and the lowered horns of the CSM, but just that.
On the topic of shoulderpads. I love the way my fav artist NK paints them. I'm gonna try PS another model to have those in a min.
