Female Space Marines Canon?

  1. I am not really looking to debate whether female SMs should be canon, can't be, or otherwise. Personally I could care less, but I think the expansion to the game would bring in more players, lore, and in the end (assuming it was done correctly) simply add to the experience... shield-maidens are bamf...

Instead I am looking for some details as to whether this image/text I came across has merit. It was posted on Tumblr by someone claiming that female SMs have been canon all along. The image is of a page from what I believe to be the Game Designer's Workshop magazine. I have researched them and not really found much that would officially link them to GW, which is a separate company started after GDW(?)

However, even as a separate company I would assume that they needed rights to publish protected items of GW in their magazine.

Can anyone shed light on this page, magazine, company, their relationship to GW, etc. I am just kinda interested to see if this is another potential 'verified canon conflict' (though I personally have never seen the actual text saying women can't be SMs, I have only heard from numerous sources that I trust... maybe I shouldnt?!)

  3. they are not space marines. SOB are humans drafted by the E since they cant "field men in battle"

they are they loophole so that the E can have a standing army

Like I said. I am looking for details on this GDW company, their rights to GW content, and if this is potential canon...

Having in mind someone like Ward was once given the ability to make things canon (to my knowledge he quit/got fired) id reckon it is just one of those tests GW tried to see if they can sell female miniatures for the SM.
Seeing the lack of interest they held to their guns that only men can become SM.

And honestly, the Sororitas being a very unique army covering the power armored aspect of the fairer gender i dont think theres really a reason to try and dig deeper into making Mark 11-Boobplate for the SM.
    vaevictus333 and Golokopitenko like this.
  5. So who really is Ward? Was he ever with GW?

this is what i could find for you.

    GDW info:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Designers'_Workshop

    where your page came from:
    http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=11999
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenge_(game_magazine)

    info:

Challenge GDW #36 Sunstroke - mini campaign

The planet Lukaas (population 3.2 billion) is home to a small scientific outpost built by the ancient Slann. Ten days ago unidentified ship landed near the outpost and placed a forcefield over a small area before leaving. A week later the Lukaas's sun has suddenly flared raising the temperature on the planet. Cracking the forcefield a Slann teleporter is discovered and Tech-priests concluded it has something to do with sun flaring. If something isn't done soon the population on the planet will die.

Seeing this a small force of female space marines called the Little Sisters of Purification, along with two Tech-priests are sent into the teleporter to find the what is causing the problem and try to fix it. The teleporter sends them to a experimental station within the sun's atmosphere, where the station is being taken apart by a large number of Jokaeros. Led by Shk'leen, a space vampire disguised as a Jokaero, they are tearing the station apart in order to build a spaceship to leave the system.

its up to you to decide if you find this old rogue trader era data still canon or not, if it was ever considered canon for it isnt made by GW itself.
  8. I have seen this... I have google too. But these do not really tell the story of the relationship between GW and GDW from what I have seen. Maybe I glazed over the section it mentioned but I'm just trying to dig a little deeper.

I didnt see that other source on him though... that gallery of fail is hilarious

Girls can be as tough as marines thanks to prototype genetic mod, mechanicus\dark mech stuff or demonic possessions and mutations but they they won't be a space marines because they can't have thew same crazy implants as astrades have. Those I assume are more likely the female arch cultists (like guards woman from Storm of Iron despite she wasn't a chaos champion).
TL'DR: female space marines- nope, female MEQ- yeah it's possible.

    Pic realted for lulz.
  10. Like I said, I dont care if they can be or not. Clearly an official company came out with an official publication saying that they were. I am interested in the relationship between GDW and GW because either GW said "hey, go ahead and try this" (then sat back to see the interest it generated like DjemoSRB said) or someone used their copyright without permission.

Situation 1 is canon. Situation 2 is not. I am trying to dig little deeper to see if someone might have more details on the relationship between them. I do not like some of the things I read about Ward, but GW still hired him and he wrote stuff until like last May or something... GW wasn't that disinterested by his work, regardless of his actions. Do I wish that GW listened more to the players and fans, of course. But whether or not you like what is canon, it doesn't the past and what is done is done.

Calm down. If this is another canon conflict you can still play SMs just like normal. Whether or not the door is opened for those that would like to see them you can still keep your testosterone and pants. Whatever reason you have against a female fighting for something she believes in is irrelevant. Publications are ALL canon.
