Actually as far as miniatures go, I'm not sure why there aren't female minis other than it being cheaper to have fewer body types. Even then they'd probably be able to at least recycle the torso and legs because the IG uniform is bulky enough to cover everything up, so it'd really just be a matter of mixing in a few different heads and arms with the kits. Though I guess that means you would have to duplicate the arms for every pose, which would be a pain production-wise.

Or you could print only the heads and advise that female models be built with long sleeves unless you want them to look unusually buff.

Though I'd guess another reason is their mostly-male playerbase, and the fact that IG uniforms don't do much to accommodate fanservice (some artists' creative "interpretations" aside). So lack of demand+bean counting+bureaucratic inertia=no female minis. Though it's nothing a little kit-bashing can't fix.

At any rate, IG lore (unlike some other factions) does fully support female participation both in administrative roles and on the battlefield, though the exact proportions of course may vary by regiment.

Respectfully, WWII communist conscripts fighting for their existence vs US coming over seas to fight a war are two different things. Not trying to take away frpm what they did. But just pointing out they were forced to fight or have the german army run over them regardlessly. Our Army came over so we weren't in the situation Russia was in. Well that and a little Japanese push to get us there.

As a ending point I will say that women are said to be the best long distance shooters.

Cause i doubt any of them compare to this bad boy:

    From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Army
So, out of 34,401,807, only 2.3%, 800,000 were women. Sorry, but that's really not significant when the population itself is ~50%, so yes, even in Russia, most women stayed at home.

Since we are doing all these comparisons lets look at women in the US during WWII:
    from: http://chnm.gmu.edu/courses/rr/s01/cw/students/leeann/historyandcollections/history/lrnmrewwii.html
    And for comparison:
So, for the US we've got 16.1 million and, wait for it...2.4% women. So, let's drop the whole nationalistic BS.
It's not that there is some misogynistic attitude against women. I think it's safe to say that most of the players love women (being that most of the players are male...) and are perfectly fine with seeing more of them. I'm even absolutely positive that if instead of the Vostroyan an Imperial world that tithed only women (any number of fluff reasons could account for it), the sales would be through the roof, even if they were still completely armored up and weren't badly modeled with bare midrifs and exposed skin (I'm lookin at you Catachans).
Morally, most people throughout history would rather see men in combat and suffering the horrors of war, imprisonment, rape, etc, than seeing women go through the same thing. Look at what happened during the Iraq war when Jessica Lynch got captured. There was a huge media circus, public outcry and a huge effort to free her.
Logistically, women cost more than men, and have the potential to be "combat ineffective" for months or longer (yes of course there could be mandatory contraceptives but again, more costs/supply, and people who it isn't effective on, refuse to take it, etc which raises a whole different host of issues).
To a point however, who is to say all of those IG (other than Catachans with the bulging biceps and Vostroyans with their bulging mustaches) arn't women?

Put helmets on them and at 20 yard and you tell if they are male or female? (The honest is yes, if they are moving, it is in fact pretty easy to tell women apart from men on the battlefield, women move different, can't describe it, it's just a thing). But, from a model POV, there is no reason the greatcoats of the Valhallens, the robes of the Tallarn, the chestplates of the Cadians or the masks of the steel legion aren't hiding a women under them, and if someone wants to play an all-female regiment, more power to them.
Still, 2% is, for all intents and purposes, insignificant, and since GW primarily make miniatures in groups of 10, it would need to be 10% before they get space on a sprue.

The US has not allowed women to engage in combat roles until 2013, your numbers of the American women are of mostly administrative or logistical roles, not combat roles. The Russian numbers are of a lot of women who actually participated in the combat and killed german soldiers. This was very unusual and unique to the Red Army at the time. Like someone said, it was because the Russians were beset on all sides by the enemy and they simply had to put women on the frontlines as well because they needed all the bodies they could get for the cataclysmic meatgrinder that was the war with the German forces.

This sounds like something that fits with the IG in my ears...;)

Other than arguing for arguings sake I'm not sure what your point is, either. The IG minis are very clearly male and the idea that because you can't see some of the male minis faces you can pretend that they are women is not good enough.

Remember also that this is 40K and that the people in charge in 40K would not care if either their women or men get molested by the enemy. These people send billions of soldiers to their deaths at the hands of the most abominable monsters in the galaxy

The bottom line is that the IG is representative of the "regular" humanity in 40K and it's almost all guys. To me it makes more sense that the IG is mixed, much like the Tau should be unless they have lore reasons against it.

I don't think it would kill GW to simply have some more female minis and codex art. It's the lore, it should be there

Obviously it's not because most of the 40K fanbase is male and it would be a pointless excercise for GW to add new art and miniatures since it probably wouldn't help their immediate sales. But if they want to attract a bigger market in women and have 40K grow further over the next 20 years or so they should probably start changing a few things up

They are mixed, even got the cast system going on, in essence they have 5 casts which do not mingle with each other which means no intercourse or romances between them they are strict on this.

The Tau are humanoid in shape, although they have hoofed feet and four-digit hands (three fingers and one thumb). Their skin is grey-blue (although this can vary in pigmentation between Tau colony worlds), rough in texture, leathery, and exudes almost no moisture. Their faces are flat, wide around the eyes, with an "I"-shaped slit running from the center of the forehead to where a human's nose would be. Tau vision is considered slightly superior to that of humans - their visual spectrum extends a little more into the ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths. However their pupils do not dilate, giving poorer depth perception and providing slower vision focusing reflexes than humans. The olfactory organs of a Tau are inside the mouth. Physical strength and size varies between the Tau castes with the Fire Caste being the strongest of their kind, roughly the size and slightly weaker than an average baseline human because the Tau homeworld has gravity slightly weaker than that of Terra.

To the point, the different castes work in different ways, so if you are born in the earth caste be it male or female you will become a builder or a farmer, if you show your self to be smart and ingenious above the rest you become an engineer to work with new technology and such, water caste is administration which means bureaucracy diplomacy and the like.

And fire caste dont make distinctions in the end, they have a famous commander which is female, although distinctions are hard too see, in basic from birth you are trained to serve in war and battles to come, which means as a female of the fire caste you are not a birth giving machine you become battle ready and your off.
