Actually, as a counterpoint to the IG having a high female population: the Imperium is also a fairly efficient thing, all considered. It's much more efficient to ship males off-planet for Imperial tithes and keep most of the females at home working in the factories, and making more people. The Imperium as a whole is in a constant war setting. they loose millions of people every day in various wars on un-numbered planets. all those people have to come from somewhere, as does all the equipment they use.
From a strictly logical point of view, keeping women out of tithing forces (though not necessarily the PDF as was represented in Space Marine) is perfectly reasonable, both as I stated already to provide more people for the meat grinder that is the Imperium, and because women take more resources than men (this isn't a prejudice, it's a biological fact that has had millions spent studying it).
Then there is the psychological side of it, when you are fighting things that want to do all the worst things imaginable, and more, to their enemies (looking at YOU slaanishi cults. Oh wait, that's me...), it's more acceptable that this happens to men than to women because lets face it, we don't want our enemies capturing our women and using them to make more soldiers for them.... And, as the majority of the fights that the Imperial guard actually fight are against other humans, either in reclaiming worlds, or putting down rebellions, this is a big factor.
Also remember, the Imperium is not some enlightened society that believes in equality. They are very much entrenched in a dark-age (possibly renaissance if you count Ultramar) mentality, there are very specific roles for classes, races, and sexes, and while there are certainly exceptions, they are just that, exceptions.
So, no, in general IG shouldn't have a significant number of women in it, PDFs, sure, but not the IG in general. The complaint that they should be represented more is similar to complaining about a historical mid-evil setting not having women as knights or fulfilling all roles in the armies.

Dear original poster. If I could kindly direct you to the search function of the forum with the keywords *female space marine* , you will find numerous threads on this topic with more or less the same content in 20 pages or more. The forum is already filled with threads on this topic and there is almost nothing productive coming out of them. At this point I can only consider making more of these trolling. And it's working great if it is.

Dear oblivious one I would like you to actually read the thread and find just one quote to where I said give me female space marines. Try doing that reading thing. Don't come on here and spew your ignorance.

Discussions there didn't just end with * I want/don't want female space marines*. People went over the same things there , the same lore possibilities, many stated the same opinions here that they did there , the same reasons for and against, the same concerns about player interests. Repainting the thread doesn't change it's content or make this one more worth it , and it seems you are the one who hasn't read the previous ones.

Its funny you say that because a lot of people who came on this thread and were initially against this thread have actually been posting ideas and possibilities. I.E instead of SM faction we go with imperium so if yiu choose the male option you are a SM if you pick female option you are a SoB. same with chaos but obviously the female option being a corrupted sister.

So, I do believe the idea this thread and the ideas people are bringing in hold merit over " give me female space marines".

But, then people like you just randomly hop in without exploring the thread and say no female SMs and we have to have this conversation every other page

Same things happened in some of these threads. Same suggestions for a unified Imperium faction , cultist female suggestions , female hero class suggestions , chaos SoB as seen in one rare case of the lore , genderbending CSM , female mechanicum accompanying the space marines , female psychers, theorycrafting of all sorts etc . Same things over and over and over again. I just get tired of seeing this repetition , but maybe this is the way things should be. Carry on , just be aware of how many times this has been said and done before.

  8. Im glad there are no female space marines, it wouldnt make sense based on the lore of the universe. With other groups it makes sense such as in the Imperial Guard, they need every person they can get man, woman, or vegetable. The imperium is HEAVILY beurocratic its like the NCAA the teams dont mix the genders which makes sense with SOB, and best left that way. It would take away from how formally rigid the imperium is to do stuff like that I think, but thats just me :p

Even if you apply warped logic that only women should stay at home and work in factories because of their biological needs (lol) in this boardgame fiction, you would still see a lot of women in the IG. The IG fights for the survival of humanity and relegating 50% of humanity to stay away from the battlefronts is silly in this setting.

Currently there are 0 (zero) available female IG units to buy from GW.

    The IG is a fantasy amalgamation of the soviet and british armies in World War 1 and 2. At the time the red army was unique in that it had almost a million women serving in the military. I'll quote this one;

I understand why Americans are confused by the idea of women on the frontline participating in combat since it took until 2013 to even allow it at all over there. The US army is still years away from implementing these new ideas into their combat doctrines.

In my country though, women can join the frontlines just as the men can and in such regards there is no difference made between them. So to get back on topic here; I think it's really strange that the IG is presented as so entirely male when they are supposed to be the shield of humanity and the flavour of the IG is based on the soviet war doctrines which had an abnormally high female participation.

Is it really that offputting for IG tabletop players to see female toysoldiers in their boardgame? Once again, I'm not asking for gender equality here, I'm just wondering why there is so much resistance to the idea

The funny thing here is that there's a excellent post in the FIRST PAGE, describing in detail about females in each race/faction(not taking into account all the other threads about the same subject)...so what is the reason to stretch this for 38 pages?
I went through these pages...demographics,playerbase,middle ground...all good arguments...but there a little thing here...you've got a well established IP, with a playerbase that actually likes the lore as it is...changing the IP for "good business"(design decisions and minor changes are expected and not counted) , and suddenly this is not W40K...so the good business isn't so good suddenly...

SoB and IG are good choices for female characters, and hopefully at some point they will be in the game...after the more iconic and preferable races/factions are ready...
But we need to do "good business", right?
So let's take it a little further, let SM's use any color they like(pink floyd reference not intentional:p ) , the playerbase will expand with green/yellow space wolf armor...
We need a bigger playerbase, let's add universal guilds...my girlfriend likes eldar characters, I like SM's, we like to play together, that's good business...she also dislikes PvP, so let's restrict PvP in the game to certain small areas, because we all know PvP'ers are some strange guys that need to be isolated, and PvP is really a small minigame in any MMO that likes good business...
Let's take it even further...who doesn't like unicorns, people will pay money for a purple unicorn mount!
We need to make more people happy, let's add arenas, lightsabers and a PvE server!
    Now, that's a perfect W40K MMO!...or not?

It's simple, this is a W40K MMO...it will use the W40K IP as it is (as I said minor design decisions and changes are expected)...sorry if it's not what you prefer (I still don't know if I like the game, since little gameplay info is known), but thank the market, because we have options...
For middle ground solutions, there's always the big gorilla in the room MMO (with the copycat IP, if you know a little about gaming history)...
Or, the gorilla's copycat with lightsabers...
Or, any of the MMO's with IP's that are more "free" of restrictions and less established, with IP's with small or non-existent funbase...those are better for middle ground solutions...

Sorry if this sounds a little offensive, that was not my intention...I just got bored of the same in principle threads (for different subjects each time), some MMO beta phases ago...you actually produce excellent arguments compared to the ones I saw back in WAR's or SWTOR's beta...
