Hard to shine at range when it takes 12 rounds to kill well. Nobody is going to stay in the open that long, and the lag sucks so opponents aren't where you're firing half the time.
just had my first round with the kannondeffgun... never had that much teamkills :O mortar mode is super dangerous for your mates ^^ i think plasma ball of death needs way louder noise so you hear it coming if lag does not foul around with you
I agree about the powerful weapons needing a toning down but a plasma gun is meant to be faster to bring to bear than a heavy weapon as it's a tactical class weapon. The plasma gun used to be good, it could bring down a melee player charging at you on rapid fire but it's overheat stopped it raining death continuously. I'm absolutely fine toning down the plasma cannon. Also, I think it's time melee players had to use some other strategies than just charging at you or deploying to their spawn area, hold down RMB and launch across the entire map to one shot you or apply a DoT! Only joking about that last part obviously but the reason you don't see many other weapons is because they can't bring down enemy players fast enough before they close into melee. That used to be the job of the plasma gun and storm bolter. The problem boils down to the fact that there are two entirely different combat elements in the game, melee and ranged. Ranged should make melee impossible so the devs had a choice to make and they decided that their priority was melee so the ranged game deliberately had to be made weak so that melee is always viable. The ranged players now are just sick of being on the receiving end of this.
Compare the plasma gun to the rokkit. Both can one shot but the plasma can get 2 off before I get one. I then have to reload while you could possibly shoot more. Next we have accuracy which plasma beats hands down. I get the whole asymetric thing but atm SM factions have too much access to super fast kill reliable weapons. Even their worst guns work fine vs us (and eldar tbh never had an issue killing one with a bolter) yet all I see are threads about LSM needing buffs. Their problem isnt really one of gear imo. Also heavy v plasma you get a charged insta gib before I fire a shot with a HB/deffgun/SC thats nuts. But I think the problem lies more with heavy weapons bring to bare time.
Not defending Rokkits current state, but we must always take into account this key factor: You can cap on a Rokkit Shoota Boy, a PC Dev cannot. Sadly I think the ability to cap factors in heavily on a lot of stuff we have in this game currently.
Tbh I actually like rokkit because of how it allows counter play. Thats my beef with plasma. It doesn't allow a response. I can use a shoota get the drop on a guy, come from behind, and he can still turn and insta gib me. On a rokkit of I get flanked I have to use a side arm and melee. Why shouldn't plasma be forced to use fast fire instead of charged at the least in this scenario?
Some still do. I got DBashed and snapshooted in the noggin the other night. I had fond memories of prenerfed PC snapshotting haha.
I might not have been clear earlier, I've no objection to the ork equivalent of the plasma gun getting a similar buff, I agree that the two weapons probably should fire at the same time. My issue is with the effectiveness of the weapon against a melee class.
