Where do I start..... They usually kill me by RMB victory button, I ofc DBash, dodge away and start shooting, but I VERY rarely will take them down before they come out of stun with a heavy attack, or anything really, I don't think I've ever had a 2nd DBash work. I play all factions, but I have levelled Eldar the most, I would say the Twin Linked SC Avenger feels the best at taking stuff down quickly, it's the closest to being acceptably fun. I guess everything just feels vastly too inaccurate to be fun.
A lot of this. I agree that melee is stronger and I think simple things can help balance it out, but as a GA main. It isn't as easy as some people make it out to be.
Yes lots of capture points are close quarters but almost all of them offer positions where ranged combatants can get a serious terrain advantage, and in group play a careful shooter can very easily and very effectively support melee fights and provide huge advantage in close quarters, besides negating enemy heavy weapons and other ranged
I usually rock people with my Plasma gun set to auto. If it's one on one and someone hits you in melee, roll behind them or parry them and unload on their face. If it's a horde of melee you're fucked even if you are melee.
All of the ranged capture classes really have it bad against melee. You can literally spam fast attacks against them and nothing they can do matter. If they try to clang, their knife will break fast and they are toast and if they try to block and stun, they still don't have enough time to do anything that matters and gets killed as soon as you are back in control, since their knife will still break. They are fine when they can keep you in range and shoot you to pieces, but they shouldn't be that useless when engaged in melee. Heavies have always had this issue too and I didn't like it, but its at least acceptable that a heavy shooter should be 100% useless when engaged in melee. The same doesn't work for Tacticals though. They should be able to do something to survive.
Melee is just purely the best option right now. The damage potential for the effort required is incredibly overtuned. People can claim all they want that the melee system is "nuanced" and "rock paper scissors" but the reality is that youre just going to run in try to swing at somebody and youre going to randomly get stunned by a seemingly normal melee swing and then get 2 shot before the stun breaks. The stun melee attack in right now is invisible 90% of the time and not telegraphed at all. Rolling away does nothing as you can be killed while rolling so all you did was animation lock yourself to death. The clang system is garbage and you can randomly clang on people from behind, not even knowing youre there, or repeatedly clang on a knife with a power axe and then get oneshot by a power sword from behind while youre stunned. The whole thing needs to be torn down and redone.
I've got to agree with him though. Once the melee player closes range, usually the melee character will almost always win unless the ranged players spams something cheap.
Nah, the melee actually works just fine between melee characters. its fun and rewarding when played right. The issue is strictly against ranged characters.
The time to kill is simply too long for ranged weapons but then again, whenever a ranged weapon can actually kill someone you get dozens of whining threads about it on the forum so I guess that's what people want. Just look at the heavy bolter now, that thing is a complete joke and melee classes are free to run around everywhere they want without being kept in check (except maybe by plasma cannons I guess but we all know it's going to get nerfed too).
