Ultramarines are the snobby overrated smurfs. Dark Angels are the edgy secretive green guys. Blood Angels are the ones with a nice name for a metal band. Space Wolves are the rebellious 12-year olds wiping their bums with the Codex Astartes.
i dont see how ultramarines are snobby. they are a warrior caste society much like ancient sparda. They adhere to the Codex Astartes because A)their Primarch wrote the damn thing, its like an expected tradition on top of the fact that its incredibly sound warfare advice and B) just like HEMA organizations study and train using medieval longsword training manuals, its not a bad idea to adhere to the wisdom and knowledge of material written by a primarch. a lot of the Ultramarines hate comes from the fact taht a lot of people felt like Matt Ward gave them a lot of unfair attention and thus, they became the poster boys of the Space Marines. my question: what is the problem with that exactly? if its not the Ultramarines it wouldve been someone else like the dark angels or imperial fists. seriously, it really makes no sense. Ultramarines are the template. they are the standard. there has to be one.
