It's been conformed that you can buy a single faction at a reduced price instead of buying the game as a whole (which gives you access to all factions), wouldn't a faction lock (especially a permanent one as some are suggesting) kill game sales? If a faction lock were the case then I would probably only buy a single faction. On a side note if you're doing faction locks let's go the whole hog and do class locks as well, no flip floppy, choose your faction, choose your class and stick to it. All locked or nothing locked on principle I say.
All locked or nothing locked on principle? I usually don't like when people do something out of principle... without first considering stuff. This is also one of those instances.
What if folks have each race unlocked on separate accounts? Probably a bit more expensive than buying the whole game but I doubt it will be that much more. There will be ways around faction locking. I faction swap to the lowest faction if on the same server. I remember the issue WAR had with people piling across to the strongest side.
I was making a point, I see no more or less reason for locking or not locking a faction than a subfaction or a class within a subfaction. The only confirmed lock so far is your subfaction, your character can freely swap classes and there is no information of faction locks. I see no need for it to be honest. I'd prefer class locks to faction locks.
There are also Orkz to consider, if there are faction locks in place to stop people spying and swapping to winning factions etc then the Orkz will be the only faction that can't be locked due to the boyz being a free class to play so players will have access to multiple free accounts. If faction locks are put into place then any serious paid up Ork faction players will get the rough end of the stick.
Lock it down like a chastity belt on International Viking Pillage Day. For every player who swaps to the underdog side there is someone who will swap to kill farm friends or rig the system in other ways (then blame the devs, RIFT, BFBC2 & 3, PS2, W:AR etc). This is a tough issue. Everything that has been said about faction swapping is true but there are surely mechanisms to prevent abuse and still allow hopping. I'd make players faction lock themselves for a full week (or one campaign): It's not a long term commitment. It has to be a lock with consequence even if it costs some freedom. You could put a 12-24 lockout but that won't prevent people taking advantage in unscrupulous ways and GMs are slow to curb such exploits. Even with xp value attrition for killing one enemy over and over that still doesn't stop someone from sabotaging the shit out of a strategic location on their Ork then swapping straight to their CSM to cap it, or just having friends do it for them. 1 week lock is drastic but I don’t see a good enough stick to dissuade dirt bags from the carrot of exploits otherwise. Sorry legitimate alt-ers
Laanshor you nailed it right on but having some forum of lock is better then nothing I'm not trying to push something that would screw people out of content or who do truly do not exploit the ability to faction swap. But I come from planet side 2 and because of no faction lock the so called fourth faction swapping just destroys the gameplay and I'd love for some one to prove me wrong here but if it's going to all be on one sever something has to be elements to stop those who would take advantage of it if it was not in so that it wouldn't lead to something that would kill Emerson.
Also you could still swap factions just choose carefully and wait till the timer would run down then pick a different one or select the same faction and continue your conquest to greatness
While I would not mind faction locking at all, Ill be playing Eldar exclusively myself, I don't know if it should go any further than that like class locking. Being able to test the other factions from time to time with a freebie weekend or something might also be an idea if something like this goes live.
