Not at all, I support mercenary work because those who come out with victory AND being filthy rich are definitely ahead of the game.
Lock the fuck out of everything. Letting people be too free has massive disadvantages: 1)We lose faction loyalty. 2)We come to the same problem Guild Wars 2 is facing. The moment server transfers became a thing people always flocked to the winning servers in the WvWvW mode. Servers even payed some guilds to transfer to them if they were good enough. Basically the servers were devouring each other, at this time its a pathetic state, where its usually 1 server that is so overstacked with refuges from the losing servers that you dont even have the will to log on and try. Heck you can be wiping their asses all day and the moment people actually need to log off the blob servers will capitalize on this and destroy any hard earned victory in an hour (something that you worked quite a few hours to maintain, perhaps even days depending on what were talking about). This same cannibalizing will be a reality on EC, but instead of servers we will see factions cannibalizing themselves. You think all those non-40k fans will care what they play? Nope, they will hop to whatever faction is winning and reap the easy rewards, thats the new age mentality sadly. Obviously it would be stupid to deny people to try all the factions, but a system must be put in place to single you out as a supporter of only a single faction at one point, through game mechanics or ingame restrictions. Lest we have the outcome GW2 is suffering right now.
The reason I started this thread was not to throw the option of hindering any forum of game play experience on any one of us witch I'm sure at some point we would try out other factions but what I was getting at is limiting the ability to generate the so called fourth faction problem that destroys other games. For an instance the developers speak of emersion as very dear to them and us players for the monumental game there designing, and I be leave them 100% but this feature would help keep that emersion on track since we would more or less have to commit to fights battles and campaigns not just faction swap when the going gets tuff. You would be able to play with confidence knowing that every person that logs in has locked into that faction for however long the developers would set the time being 6hrs 8hrs 12hrs who knows I leave that decision up to them. This would also help faction members know that you wont just lose half you population at the blink of an eye and a few mouse clicks due to major fighting with a faction, because they want to take the easy way and just switch to a winning side or a faction that is doing better. Now I'm not saying that they cant switch factions but they can when there lock time is up. Un till that time is up they would have to suck it up for there faction dig there heels in those trenches and try. With out this feature it will eventually lead to a greater problem of faction swapping at any time just because people can. If the developers want this on one massive serve like it is this can not be over looked.
hmm faction locks! i luuve the smell of BS in my evenings...really you people want the worst part of WAR in EC?! and Kane just because someone loged his LSM doesnt mean he will contribute to the fight unless you really liked "vanilla"WoW battlegrounds.
Moved the thread into the general discussions because of request of the OT. As for how or if we will have any kind of locks, that's up to Game Design and Game Direction (Brent and David) who are the people who need to be asked
Voted Yes. But! I'm against permanent lock. People should be able to try different factions. There should be some cooldowns when changing from faction to another. Something like 2-4 hours or 6-12 hours.
Perhaps some really nice reward could be given to the guy who play several hours without move to another faction. Its easy to implement and i think could work better than just a faction lock.
I usually play many different characters and factions and like to switch around a lot. Winning was never a reason for me to switch to anything (in fact, I often prefer playing the underdog faction). Basically, faction locks would hinder my playing experience because of something I'm not even contributing to. With that being said, I'm all for it. Just not a permanent faction lock, that's just bullshit.
I don't know were we are getting the idea of a permanent faction lock but what I asked to the developers is if there is a timed count down lock on your faction so you would still have to wait till your timer runs out then you can switch to another faction
