I would love a soft faction lock by faction swap cooldown and incentive for low pop factions. Would work good together to keep bandwagon jumpers in place and to reward those who do support their faction even in the worst of times. Fortunately the poll shows favor to some form of system keeping people from swapping factions all willy-nilly...the bane of the bandwagoneers!
I've played both planetside 2 and guild wars 2 faction locking thats temporary is needed for the simple fact that the pvp of those games collapsed because they fell under not just the might of the fourth faction and swapping but because of zerging and lack of loyalty. for the community as a whole we should dedicate ourselves to a single cause not just to enhance emersion but to make the game better as a whole. i would rather know and welcome every person who would join the space marines aswell as create rivalries with all other enemy players from there factions in the great war of the eternal crusade then a bunch of faceless drones rushing here and there in the search for better loot and a lock could help create that. just aswell these campaigns will last a week.... thats a weeks worth of battles of taking defending against close calls and all kinds of stuff that thousands of players as they said they want on a single battlefield so there would never be a shortage of fights cause the war will be so wide and vast there would be no need to swap for all the action going on. not to mention this is all on one server with people from all across the globe the language gap to me going to be abit hectic but also means that no matter the time the war will be fought and id rather them fight for there true chosen faction. i get the need to play with your friends but to be honest when you find a group to fight with on a mmo especially on this scale your bound to find the one place your gona call home might as well have a safeguard to make sure it still remains balanced and a bit more friendly. theres my two cents take it as it is and may you all be well this day and moving forward!
Though I also second the notion of a temporary faction lock, I strongly disagree with the argument that a lock will prevent people from spying. If people really want to spy, they'll simply have a messenger or something similar running in the background so they can communicate with players of the other faction.
Alot of people have been pointing in that direction, I dont mind if its a small timer or something along those lines. But locking out a whole faction for longer then a month would be a bit ridiculous. Alot of people are buying this game to play multiple races, I am one, I'd like to switch over to different races as much as I can. Someone mentioned a faction lock during a campaign, that sounds alright, but it would depend on how long the campaigns would last.
If people go through that much trouble to spy on a faction, then props to them, they have lost hours of fun time.
Where on earth did you get that idea from? I don't speak for anyone else, I don't jump around and switch factions because one is losing/winning, I may switch because I find the game play on one side boring though. The main point of a discussion forum is to get as many opinions as possible and see which opinions are supported by the majority of the community, I don't claim to be right, I just have an opinion and it's up to other people to see if or not they agree with me. It means pick a subfaction and class and stick with it, so you want to be a Space Wolf (for example) then your character becomes locked into the Space Wolf chapter, you want to play a Bloodclaw assault marine your character gets locked into the Bloodclaw class. It's an RPG style of game play that in my opinion supports immersion and the lore behind 40k. I see class loyalty (which is loyalty to your military unit) and extension of chapter loyalty, which is an extension of faction loyalty. Again my opinion, but I see switching classes/subfactions and factions an extension of the same non-committal attitude. To be perfectly honest with you, I couldn't care less what other people do, I'll play my game, they'll play theirs, if there are loopholes to be had people will always use them. To solve the problem of spying the devs simply need to implement the ability to do it in the game itself, such as infiltrating units and units that can disguise as other factions so we could have legitimate spies instead of faction swapping ones. Being that the game isn't out yet then everything we have is opinion, including all of the posts here, including your own posts, yes you are using experiences from other games, just like I am speaking from my own opinion and experience from other games and making the assumption that I am not the only person that thinks this way. [shrug] at the moment it's all opinion, and calling someone out for expressing an opinion is kid of silly really.
if a game needs faction/class lockouts in order to "force" faction loyalty and immersion then that game is a failure in my "not so humble" opinion. And you cant really stop people from spying with or without faction locks especially with a F2wagh part in the game .
