Well you always play random faction with default presets. Can this work? I mean random faction is the one that needs people to play matches atm.
F2ork is interesting, it would massively boost the ork pop to the point where SMs might actually see orks more than once a month. Iirc, the orks and eldar are the 2 lowest pop factions (eldar slightly less). Though, I still think there needs to be a bit more restrictions to encourage buying and checking out the rest of the ork options and other factions.
As every Ork player will tell you, they do not want to be the only ones suffering from a large influx of people who don't know how to play the game. They also do not want to be cannon fodder for the other factions. If F2P is to be a thing in the current state of EC, i.e. not open world, then it would have to be all factions, not just Orks.
Dey'll need limitations ta' encourage buyin' da game I've gotz a few suggestions Dey can choose any faction ta' play Dey only get access ta' dem preset classes wot can capture points (dat er jus' preset classes as a whole) Access ta' one custom class slot (ta' try out weapons and wot not dat dey buy er get in boxes) Dey can't create WAAAGH!bands, howeva' dey can be invited ta' WAAAGH!bands Dey don't gotz da ability ta' create er join guilds Can only get up ta' rank 2 Dey can still earn experience and wot not, but dey only get da rank and AP appropriate fer rank 2 at most (dey still accumulate requesition as usual) Once dey purchase da game their rank and available AP gets updated ta' match dere total experience earned
I'd say all factions as F2P,but locked to using presets only. Sell access to custom slots on a per faction and all in in one bundle. Prices on some of those skins are going ti have to come down. $10 for a hat is stupid. $10-$15 should be enough to fully kit out one dude in skins.
Not to mention with so many easy to exploit mechanics and who knows what potential for hacks there truly are. Would you really want to open our small community up to the possibility of that cancer? Just saying F2P is a very slippery slope.
I don't think there will be a choice in a number of months. I wouldn't at all be surprised if a FTP plan is being drawn up now by the devs. I don't think F2WAAGH would be the best option for the game at the moment. There would be a large but temporary balance offset for the Ork faction, but the game in it's current state wouldn't attract many customers/long term players.
If the people running the show were smart they would see that F2P is their only hope of resurrecting this game, barring some truly magnificent content patches and balancing followed by a "we unfucked the game" advertisement campaign within the next couple months. But hey, at least we're giving solid beta testing data for the console release in a couple months. That'll stop the ship from sinking right?
