I have something like 500 hours of DOTA 2 and i played even more LoL before i stopped play that game some 3 years ago. And neither of those games have level or gear grinding in the 'traditional' sense, my motivation was because i found them both fun. And with dota 2 valve knows what the hell they are doing. Not trying to sound like an asshole but i see this time and time again and i just find this mentality annoying.
Agreed, motivation is joy. If we play games for unlocks and trophies, what happen after we got everything we want? Quit?
I think this F2P-tactic, of making ork boyz F2P, is absolutely genious and fits perfectly with the fluff. As to making a "F2P class" in each faction, I don't think that's a wise decision. Eldar, Chaos Space Marines and Space Marines are fluff-wise elite. If anything, Imperial Guard grunts(whenever IG get inserted into the game) could be considered for a F2P faction along with Ork Boyz, but that's as far it can go. I liked the way Space Marine did their class unlocking, that you play a bit and unlock classes after 2-3 matches. I think that could be implemented similarily for EC, that you'd unlock a different class for every 10-15 kills, depending on faction.
Well , this F2P is not like ordinary F2P due the WH40k universe , but anyway we can`t call this game F2P it is the same like WoW, if u don`t like trial go and pay monthly , here will be another payment system but this game will be absolutely for money , and u know what ? hell with that , if there will be 10-15 euros per month i`m ready to pay for it . I`v played WoW , for 7 years , its not a problem to pay for the game you like.
not even on the pen and paper rpg they make this. it's an hardcore RPG vision, can work in a singleplayer rpg, where you born as human and get selected as novice etc etc... and only like the fable "young" only few hours as a scout stage not 100 hours of gameplay for becoming a true space marine. but in a MMO or a action game don't work well.
steven lumpkin here on the forum write something like you fight in a continent for some months after the campaing ends the continent it's locked and you go on another continent and the old continet stay closed and open only for pve. I if only i have a dev traker i give you the source. the war 40k universe it's huge, it's almost impossibile to have no content to add to the game for the next 10 years.
The difficulty is picking WHICH content to add, a lot of the lore kinda crosses over and conflicts and it's sometimes hard to decide what should fit in where.
100 is long, yes. But it can be implemented the same way Fable had it. Tutorial, maybe. 20 missions, each showing your "neophite" growing older, harder and getting more and more implants with missions each giving understanding of what it is, what it does and how can it be used. Each time giving you pieces of wargear you would once obtain and grow attached to it. (in case of Obliterators and exarchs...literally attached to it ) This way you would see the newcommer not just "a dumb tactical marine who came here after reading some ULTRAMARINE books" But a man with a little bit of lore understanding, basic understanding of how each wargear acts and what's his role on the battlefield. Still I consider each faction needs some "F2P class" That has little to none access to wargear, but still allowes the newcommer to see his favourite faction and buy access to it.
