I honestly do not see who such things would 'break the flow'; they are ENTIRELY SEPERATE areas. The Devs have already said that PVE areas (i.e. Nid tunnels) WILL exist, and they WILL add resources to the faction which CAN be used in PVP. You say you want to support the Devs vision for the game, well... that is part of it. Ergo. Why does it even matter? If it's already been planned in, then resources are not being 'wasted' implementing it, and if people want to RP in such areas away from the PVP areas....how does that in any way have an impact on anyone else? This seriously sounds like a case of "Do as I say, not as I do" or equivalent, where one persons opinion is touted as fact and not opinion. Edit: Also, I doubt the PVE 'nid zones will in anyway 'block' PVP. Hell, that might be a 'PVP lite' way of easing people new to sandbox MMOs into it; having mostly Nid fights with the odd PC group to spice things up.
I think you misunderstand me. If they are COMPLETELY separate, as in you can't access them from PvP zones (You would have to deploy directly to the PvE zones from the strike cruiser and vice versa) then that is absolutely fine. It's when people can run out of PvP zones into PvE zones when they're losing that breaks the flow of gameplay.
Eh, in your opinion. That said, I would wager that it is as you say, you'd have to leave the PVP zone and re-deploy to a primarily PVE area. Then again, the game is still in alpha; no fragging clue.
My only hope is it will be a seamless experience where PVP and PVE will walk hand in hand together without entering different zones so to speak, Tyranids are a threat to all races they bare no kin and it should be treated as such, the epic scope of barely finishing a battle with what few men you have left and suddenly a swarm of tyranids come charging down upon you with only "may god have mercy on our souls" as your final prayer ! And ofcourse being in different zones in terms of PVP/PVE will break the flow of gameplay tremendously so players should be immersed in there surroundings without the hiccup of "oh were in a safe zone" walking out of a PVE situation Should coincide with walking into a PVP situation with both situations happening at the same time rather then them being individual aspects of gameplay !
As much as I would love to hang up my chain sword and mandiblasters, walk off and compose some music, do some pottery, or go cruzing for Eldar hotties. I would prefer the game be more focused on its direction for a better quality product, than dilute it to encompass every game genre possible to please the masses resulting in a sub par experience.
I like RPing only to the point of getting people riled up before a big fight. As far as non-combat stuff, not for me.
With regard to a focus on PvE being mutually exclusive to a focus on PvP; I've seen Caron in an interview specifically cite how EVE online handles this. I think we'd all agree that EVE online is about as hardcore of a FFA PvP game as anything, but it manages to allow PvE minded players things to do that keeps them around. The players that love tinkering with the economy; trading, transporting, researching, building etc., are all free to do so in relative safety in high security space. Even these sorts of players are having an impact on the PvP aspects of the game. They're the logistical side of fleets, keeping the supply chains in tact. This perfectly illustrates how a game can provide fun for players on both side of the fence. I'm all for the PvE content they implement, so long as it doesn't negatively impact the primary PvP/GvG side of things.
