There are some cool opportunity for role-play here. Getting called for jury duty? Where'd you get that relic from my chapter? IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM! Annual records review? Multiple hours of standing in line and paperwork! In all seriousness though, I will most likely go with the flow on RP - if its going on, I will join in, but if not, I'm cool with whatevs
Most amusing outcome of RP over time, is this perspective: X faction will go to battle, members will speak before going in, and train as well. Battle begins, troops die left right and centre. X faction returns from battle, RPing characters who actually died about 20 times in-game will either act as if they were unscathed all this time, or slightly injured! (Some may dare to actually kill off a character when they feel like it, like I've seen in WoW but, that's up to them!) During all the talk after battle, they will share battle stories with boisterous laughter about which number of enemies they killed and how! ... Meanwhile, the Y faction does exactly the same, seeing X faction as the ones who died and they have their own battle stories! The cycle continues, and because of the inability to interact cross-faction so clearly makes the enemy players seem like un-named masses all while your own faction keep their characters through the entire campaign!
If so, that'd be great! That's something World of Warcraft lacked. Supposedly they did it to prevent arguments or flamewars yadda yadda.. but c'mon, it happens anyway people just make opposite faction alts to swear at them! Having legit Ork/Marine/Chaos/Eldar arguments would be perfect, just like the HQ events in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=oMc5dCC41Ss
Warhammer is a very rich and deep lore, perfectly conducive to roleplaying. Fantasy Flight Games makes RPGs for both WH fantasy, and 40k, which are top notch. I think tapping into the roleplayer-fan market could make them money via micro-transactions, if they have many different sorts of RP clothing/gear sold. Vanity items in the 40k RPG setting makes me drool. My wallet wouldn't. And, of course, as mentioned earlier, having plenty of little things. Such as, wide variety of emotes, chat bubbles, ability to sit in chairs etc.
I'm not against this if they put a market to it. If people really want these features they can speak with their wallet. But first and foremost this game was advertised as a PvP FPS MMO with atmospheric lore to it and they should focus on those features. Unless they want to change the direction of the game.
I can only imagine how fun it would be to take part in a siege where half the battle is just the fighting commanders yelling at each other over the chat system.
Haha, I suppose you're right, But I think it could be cool having enemy races being able to chat. Could even make it more interesting for those oh so sneaky Eldar trying to trick everyone.
That's true, but Lineage II was also advertised as a PvP game at the time, and it didn't stop me from having the most awesome RP experience in a MMO so far ! So, let's not lose hope, as someone said earlier RPers are always the last ones to stick around when PvErs are bored with the pre-made content and PvPers are bored of crying about this unbalance and that nerf, so I think it would be a mistake if EC was to completely ignore the RP community
