I guess what they really could need at the moment is more people, so they can do both at once... You can't only do either one or the other i guess...
Since when does an artist balance game mechanics? I mean, adding more cosmetic stuff into the store doesnt change how much a power weapon hits or does it magically fix the imbalance between melee and ranged combat also, just because it looks different? Rewriting lines of codes to improve existing features or adding new ones (like a real campaign system) need both, programmer and artists, but focusing on balancing means also time for artists to make more items.
While it's indeed not quite a real trade off between balance and content, it's true that more content is needed. I don't see myself playing this game forever on the same maps even if the balance is amazing. E.g. at present, if I play a full evening, I will play some map 3-4 times quite probably.
Considering orks are still missing 2 weapon types I would rather see them in game before they start focusing on balance. That and the maps with different weather and stuff... It was promised not even 3 months before EA that they would get different versions of each map so that it didn't feel as samey as it does now... So far no signs of this ever coming though.
How do people always turn something into a 'LSM OP, eldar buff, AC isn't OP' eternal debate? Its like people need to have a vent for how badly they performed last game and need an excuse to tell everyone so there ego isn't hurt. This thread is about adding content or keep the game the way it is (going between one faction crying every week buffing them, nerfing the rest then moving to another faction; rinse and repeat). There will never be perfect balance. Because every faction wants to be OP, and if that weapon doesn't insta kill in 1 sec, it needs a buff. Content is new maps. new game modes, termies ( though i'd prefer all the rest first) secondary objectives, pvpve, starting to get the combine maps going, lore added into why we are fighting on the planet, a larger end game picture to the campaign. Soooo would you rather bouncing back and forth between CSM being OP and orks being OP each month or would you like to see the actual game progress and actually change?
Yeh reducing there team to like 8 people is bantha fodder. They need to make money, and to do that is mainly through cosmetics. But now they can only push out 1-2 cosmetics a month if they are lucky, which look half-assed, so no one buys it, thus reducing there own income. Its like they are planning on scrapping the game by the end of the year.
Every faction has been OP in different cycles of this games development. but that's not the point of this Thread. It's a simple suggestion the OP makes. Do we stand still and perfect the best-balanced pose that we can make? or do we move forward and try new moves with new stuff? It's not always US vs THEM. sadly, this happens all the time by making everyone a faction bias / lover / etc just because of their signature or avatar and all that is left is salt and another dead Thread.
Funny, when Eldar said the same thing, the argument was thrown out the window. Not saying I think CSM are OP. Just telling you to bring a better argument.
While there is no rating this game needs content not balance revamp(or how to make viable into shit and shit into strange shit). So as Nathan said, they don't know what game they want to make, so nobody know how to balance this, so why make it big priority, just make some vanilla changes then make moar content. Cry of imbalance will be silenced cause you know... more tools... more variety... maybe it's not imbalance, that's you who trying play without realizing what you need to do.
As an almost exclusive Eldar player, I disagree. There is almost no content for Eldar in particular. I want content more than I want balance. I don't really care if I win or lose, so long as I enjoy myself. Enjoying myself would be easier if I felt like my Faction received the same level of attention as my opposite Factions do. Not to mention, on the very basic level, balancing, then adding content, must by definition mean more balancing as you have to balance the new content, which might then mean balancing everything else again. Content > Balance for this reason.
