Eternal Balancing or Content?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Nightkeeper, Mar 24, 2017.

What is more important for the devs to focus on for the time being: balance or content?

  1. Eternal Balancing only, we don't want new content.

  2. We need more content first, eternal balancing can come after everything is there first.

  3. Don't focus fire, the current pacing is fine.

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. So I see a lot of ppl who literally are asking that no new content be added and that the devs just balance things endlessly.

On the other hand I see many players that would prefer they had a lot more content to begin with, they are in the mind that balance is not going to improve very much in the games current state anyways, and would prefer if the devs worried about the balancing to perfection later on since new upcoming content will affect balance as it is added anyways.

I'm not talking about bug fixes and optimization here when I say balance I mean the endless struggle of balancing the classes, gear, weapons, and loadout options. I personally would prefer if the devs could focus more energy on content as a priority, at least for several months until we have a lot more options in game to begin with.

I am curious whether or not I am of a minority opinion on this, here within this community. Therefore I am interested in where others within the community stand on this, so I made this poll to get a better idea.

They really should have had some more content ready to begin with honestly. But if push comes to shove I'm all for balance.

More content means nothing if 75% of all contents (original and new) are absolutely worthless or unbalanced in-game. Minor tweaks and number changes are one thing, but many of the glaring bugs and the usefulness of certain weapons (and even some classes) really need to be looked at.

You don't start shelling out more content else wise your likely to cause even more problems plus it's a cheap and lazy way of avoiding current ones.

I want content but content is expensive for the devs so its just easier for them to keep "balancing" and then calling that "content" to pat themselves on the back saying they are doing work, when in reality, all they are doing is breaking something in Patch 1 and then having to fix it in Patch 2 which ends up breaking another thing which they fix in Patch 3.

What needs to happen is we need more focus on things that impede both the balance and functionality of the game.

It's not an argument of stats.

It's an argument of annoyance within two seperate systems:

Melee is too clunky because of it's reliance on stun to get things done and the large gaps in fluid motion between animations for all factions. EC has many of the same movesets (even more actually) than Relic's SM, but which one is clunkier? Why? Because one game had time to polish the hell out of the animation sets, the other built 3 copies for 4 unique factions.

TTK is slightly too low, about .2-.5 secs across the board - exasperated by high latency and server issues. Adding .25 seconds of time to just about everyone's hp would make for more interesting fights and a decent buffer to reasonable latency issues.

If/when these two issues are resolved, then the devs can just dump content onto the game. A lot of it art that may affect server performance anyway.

But honestly, doing this stuff is pretty unrelated to what an artist might spend their time on. The artist can churn out countless items and have them ready to go when the functionality of the game catches up. In fact it can even help hold people over.

You're probably not a minority, and let me tell you why:

I would guess that whether you want content or balance more, largely depends on what you play the most. If you're a LSM or CSM player, you are probably going onto the content side. The two most powerful factions, with a variety that could be enhanced further.

If you however mainly play orkz or eldar, the two underpowered factions that suffer from many disadvantages when it comes to balance, you're likely to want more balance in the game.

Since the vast majority of the playerbase is LSM or CSM (roughly 85% or so right?), most people want more content.

If your Eldar I would expect more content considering 4 out of 7 classes have 1 weapon!
Although Orks would want better balance though since they have a lot of toys and all they need is to fix/buff them.

Actually I agree with LSM being OP but CSM are far from OP. Half their wargear is STILL useless (Marks, only nurgle is good and the rest are extremely situational), while eldar and orks have huge advantages in many areas, for example eldar with their small hitbox combined with agility and heavy damage with a slightly less EHP

Maybe, yes, but it's a cry for more things to further balance, rather than just wanting more shiny things. Eldar classes should be relatively specialized anyway, but they are hurting in some departments equipment-wise. Still, 1v1 they tend to lose quite a bit, and I thought that would be more of a priority than a firelance.

Balancing: The people who dont do very well want this.

More Content: The people that do very well want this

Optimization & Fixes: What we really need

Thats pretty much the way ive seen this break down. Everytime something gets balanced the game just seems easier and easier to me, eventually if balancing continues ill be hitting hundreds of kills per round(over exaggeration ofcourse). I believe optimization and fixes are whats needed before any of that. I run the game perfectly(as perfectly as one can run EC) but there are thousands of voices calling out in pain over how they can barely run the game or it runs like its dying of cancer on their pc. I think accommodating to the masses that would just like to play it in a better state is probably the most straight forward way to go to ensure a large amount of happier players. But Optimization and bug fixes are also probably the hardest to do and take the most time. I just cant see that adding more content will make those who can barely run the game happier, ofcourse alot of them have their systems to blame but alot of them also dont.

I have heard horror stories of people playing this game almost locked at 30 fps how can those people possibly enjoy themselves? thats xbox 360 performance. not only that but these people also end up being tossed around and murdered left in right in combat because of the poor performance their systems are putting out. We need to look into helping these players first because there are a shit ton of them.

I would like to see playable Sisters of Battle in the game eventually.

I can't help but think that the people who are pushing for no more content already have what they want and don't consider that others might have their fun ruined by halting all new content.

I think we need a mix of balancing and new content, but I will not pretend to know what ratio is best.
